Finally picked-up my T3 SS in 300WSM

I know, I know - it took me long enough.
Yea, I had the gun sitting at my FFL dealer for I guess about 6 or 7 months now. Why? Well, it started out with my traveling around the world on business and my FFL dealer and I not being able to schedule a mutual time. Then, I ordered a Tikka Whitetail Hunter in 7mm-08 - yup, the original Tikka SS short action, and NEW IN BOX. So I then decided to wait for that so that I can kill two birds (deer
) with one stone (bullet
) no pun intended. :-D
Anyway, let's talk serious.
First thing is first - the recall.
My T3 was within the serial number range. However, when I called Beretta, they told me that only a small percentage of rifles within that range were actuall affected, and Thank God mine was NOT affected. :-)
Now, as far as the rifle goes, I handled the T3 when it first came out, although it wasn't mine. Now that I have my own, I will have a better opportunity to evaluate it.
Initially, I remember that the stock is much slimmer and lighter. Actually, I am starting to like the T3 more than the original WH now. The only thing I like about the original WH more is the true short actions, whereas - as most of you already know by now, the T3 is a one size fits all action. That's why I bought the Tikka WH SS in 7mm-08. Otherwise, if it's a long (or longer) action, then I think I prefer the T3.
I'm going to try out these SS rings - which look kinda cheap to me. Or, come to think of it, I just may order Talley Rings. In any event, I am going to mount my Zeiss Conquest 3x-9x-40mm. It has 4" of constant eye relief and I prefer it on this lighter rifle in .300WSM. I was going to mount the Elite 4200 2.5x-10x-40mm, but I think that I'm going to mount it on the 7mm-08.
I'm not thrilled with the recoil pads, on either the Tikkas or the Sakos, or most other makes for that matter. The Remington Simms pads are great, and I am going to look for a similar type recoil pad for the Tikkas. in fact, I may make a new post on the subject.
Anyhow, I'll try to take this rifle out to the range this weekend (that is if I don't go fishing first. )
