new owner, questions before I purchase.
« on: January 20, 2005, 07:06:14 AM »
Hello,
I am thinking about buying a T/C  encore katahdin carbine (45-70). I was wondering how accurate they were? How well do they balance?  all the encore barrels will fit the encore reciever right?  how accurate are thier accessory barrels? how good are their adj. triggers?  how is recoil in the 45-70? any other tips on the katahdin carbine and/or accessories would be greatly appriciated.
thanks

I have a  katahdin carbine barrel in 444 Marlin, balance is great. The barrel is very accurate and fits the Encore frame no problem. The 45-70 with factory round is not bad at all, but when you reload and make the 45-70 hotter, you will notice a big difference in recoil. The porting helps a little with the recoil. Staying with the lighter bullets helps with the recoil also.  :D  I also am using a walnut stock coated with bedliner to help with the recoil. The bedliner is black and looks close to the synthetic forearm but does not help with the recoil. I just wanted to get away from the synthetic stock.  :D

I have one in 450 marlin the porting makes it very loud I wear plugs and ear muffs, short barrel looks great and is comfortable accuracy is not a problem.

Do you wear plugs and muffs when hunting?
