Sako, Tikka, ???
« on: January 18, 2005, 07:48:50 AM »
I am looking to get a 7mm wsm, I would like to get a sako or tikka rifle, but I see they only offer the 270 wsm and 300 wsm. Does anyone know if either one of these companies is going to come out with the 7mm wsm chambering.

Thanks for your help

I wouldn't think so solely because, and this is just my opinion, if they were going to do it, they would have done it a long time ago.  And the reason for that is because the popularity of the 7mmWSM is not as great as the .300WSM or .270WSM.

I have a Winchester Model 70 .300 wsm and I have really enjoyed it. I have yet to hunt with it  but the day will come. It is my humble opinion this is one fine cartridge. There is a vast selection of bullets to choose from if you reload. I am not a speed freak when it comes to reloading for velocity as accuracy is number one always. My best loads are in the 2800 to 2900 fps range so recoil is not a big issue.

I guess my point to this reply is if you are not "dead set" on your choice of caliber, you might want to think about the .300 wsm.

The Tikka is a light weight rifle. I have one in 7mm-08 and love it. Shoots great, easy handling and is just great for going up and down trees. Recoil is not a issue, but I think it would be with a 7wsm. My gun is a ss/ synthetic and weighs 7 1/4 pounds, scoped, loaded and sling. Put that number in a recoil calculator = ouch.

If the 7wsm is it for you , I would consider the Sako with a little more weight. I think it will be more enjoyable to shoot, and you will shoot it better.

But who am I to say, just got a .338 win mag and have really enjoyed shooting it. Something about that 180 gran ballistic tip going 3300 fps that makes me say errrrrrrr! :P  :P

backcountry,  I have three tikkas, one of which is a ss/syn 7mm. It is a wonderful gun. Having a hard time now days picking up my old faithful remington7mm. Not a big difference ballistic-wise between the 7wsm. I would buy this gun again in a heartbeat.
