Thought I was gonna buy the farm
« on: July 18, 2004, 11:57:04 AM »
Last thur went fishing in one of the local lakes, the only one on the lake. After bout 2 hours chest pains hit real hard. Got the boat back to the beach loaded it up and headed for home, chest pain still there and no body around. Called my Cardioligst(sp) he said get to his office, they did an EKG, he called the Hosp. and away I went. I had a stent put in couple of years ago and they thought that was the problem, but after going in and looking they found another  artery that was almost totally blocked. Now have another stent in, pictures look real good now. Wife dosent fish but said no more going alone even if she has to get up at dark thirty and go out in the boat with me. She said she can always sleep in the boat. The diet they have me on sucks. Yes I did smoke and that just ended. My Govt insurance is gonna love the bill for this one, but at least I will still be around to shoot and fish and teach the grandkids things that they really need to know that they dont teach in school.

Know what you mean Gunrunner, last Sept had some symptons much like yours, wife called the squad, took me to the hospital. run some tests and then did a quadruple bypass and a carotid operation. All turned out alright and as I tell everyone I'm still looking at the green side of the grass. Feel like I should be good for another 70 years.

Self CPR technique
« Reply #2 on: November 12, 2004, 01:02:26 AM »
I saw an interesting thing the other day in my email. It was instructions on CPR administered to yourself. What you do is repeatedly take a deep breath and then cough heartily. The deep breath oxygenates your lungs and the cough forces chest contraction which makes the heart pump.
I don't know if it works but it sounds plausible.
Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Stan in SC, since you never perfrom CPR on a conscious person it sounds a bit fishy. It may or may not be be of some help for some conditions such as an obstructed airway but it is not self applied CPR....<><.... :-)

Welcome to the club.  Had a bypass in 2001.  In 2002 told to guit taking VIOXX if was affecting my bypass.  November 2004 got a new stint, also told the bypass has totally blocked now.  I'm still breathing, that's a good sign.  Still riding my snowmachine, and hunting wolves by myself.  If I get chest pains just pop a Nitro, and sit down till it goes away.  Life is too short to sit on the porch and watch it go by.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Stan, since I posted I have read something about the same procedure. It looks as if it has merit however I think I misunderstood when you referred to it as self administered CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resesitation). It appeasr to be a procedure to ward off or delay problems the person may feel are starting.  It appears as if it would not hurt and very likely would be of some help (IMHO). Best of luck....<><....

I take it we're all about the same age...I'll be 61 in July. I've lived a good life and hope to be around long enough to see my young'un's grow up. (my youngest is five) So I don't plan on putting any $$$ down on the farm yet but to those of you that have made down payments just remember, there's lot's of seasons left for all of us to hunt & fish. See ya in the woods or on the water. :D
