Sears Model 53

I have had a Sears Model 53 for a long time. I think I took it in on trade when I was a licensed dealer. I have never used it and by looking at it the original owner never used it either. It is a butt ugly gun but a great caliber in 30-06. I would like to restock it and put on a better scope for my son to use so he will leave my Rem Mod 700 alone ( I bought this when I was 14). I have tried a crossreference on serial number and by model number but when it comes to the 53 there is no information. I hope there is someone who can help me? Thanks

Is it a Sears or a J.C Higgins model?
J.C. Higgins was the brand name that Sears used on their firearms back in the 1950's and 60's.
I know they sold a model 50, 51, 52 and 54. I have never heard of a model 53 in a Higgins. Depending on who made that Model 53 for Sears, you may not want to mess with it too much.

Josiewales, before you restock the 53 try refinishing it , my brother did mine and it is the finest looking gun I own. He handrubbed the stock after stripping it and it has a tiger stripe look to it. Also he glass bedded the action and it shoots one ragged hole at 100 yds. If you want I can try to post pictures. Also if you want to sell it I would be interested, don't know what I'd do with two .06 model 53s but what the heck. Let me know. 77hiboy
