Anyone try Hornady's Light Mag. ammo ?

I have a Remington model 700 Classic in 280 Remington. I'm thinking about trying Hornady's 139 gr. SST Light Mag. ammo. Hornady advertises 3110 fps ! Anyone try this ammo yet?

Yes, I have used Hornady light Mag ammo in my .270. Loved the ammo, worked great, very accurate.

I was all fired up about it but didn't have good groups with the .243 or 7mm08 loads I tried. I guess it depends on what your rifle likes. :lol:

In my Remington M700 SS DM in 7mm-08, it shoots sub MOA, but it is only about MOA in my Sako SS - go figure.

Anyhow, my father used the Hornady LM in this load on a whitetail about 100 yards away - I can't say that it hit the deer with more authority because, in all honesty, I can't tell the difference.

i have a tikka t3 7mm-08 and i got better groups with federal premuim ammo ballastic tips. i used the light mag for hunting but when there gone i will stick with the federal.

I tried a box of their .25-06 Light Magnums and accuracy was good and they chronographed within 12% of what Hornady advertised.  Not bad as velocity is effected by elevation, temperature and barometric pressure.  Only bought the one box and had none left to try hunting so I don’t know how they would perform on animals.  Lawdog

I think that Greybeard uses the stuff in his 7mm-08, and swears by the stuff. I'm sure he'll chime in soon about it.
I, Myself have tried it in two rifles both in 7mm-08 and have got terrible groups out of both. But as they say each rifle has it's own set of likes and dislikes.

It's the ONLY thing I use in my 7-08 LSS Mtn. Rifle. Generally groups about 1/2" at 100 yards in that rifle. Super accurate stuff. It is one load I always try in any gun. Some love it some don't but most do. Of the guns I've bought in the last several years I think I've had maybe 2-3 that just didn't care for it. Generally those will shoot the Hornady Classic extremely well however.

I shoot it in my Tikka 7-08 and my Tikka 7mm Mag and both shoot sub MOA.  7 deer killed in last 2 years, one shot, none ran over 10 yards.  Love the ammo.

I've shot that exact load out of my 700 mountian rifle. It was unbelievably accurate. I  didn't clock it but from the report and recoil it's definitely hotter than the standard loads.

BIG JAKE, which load are you talking about, the 280 Rem. or the 7mm-08 Rem.?

The 280 they all went into the same hole 3 rounds. No work done to the gun,accuracy is right from the box.

I bought a box for my 30-06 this year. Shoots very good through it. Took a nice 7 pointer with it. BIG entrance and exit wound.

All kills but one were pass-throughs....about the normal entry/exit holes.  I did recover one from a deer shot at 318 yards in the off-shoulder.  It was a perfect mushroom and probably 60% intact (I'm guessing)  I was extremely impressed in all instances.

Used it in a 6.5x55 Swede - plenty accurate and effective on deer. Unfortunantly, the M96 my son has appears to have an oversized chamber as  some of the cases showed signs of casehead seperation. Back to lighter loads for the old Mauser.
Also found out that the Light Mags are NOT recommended for the M96 action - guess I know why now.
