« on: December 15, 2004, 12:07:10 AM »
Remington 788 44 rem. mag does anyone have any info on this rifle.

Is it more accurate than the Ruger 77/44?

Any info would be nice.

Thanks Warf

........The 788 Rem was a plain jane type gun and often was VERY accurate.....the few in 44mag that I have seen were loved by their owners for fun shooting and short range deer hunting......they often need some stock bedding work and some shooting to get the multilug bolt to lock up smoothly.........the Ruger is a little nicer in the wood selection than MOST 788's but if I had to bet on which was more accurate overall........I would pick the 788........hang on to that magazine .....they are sometimes hard to find.....hth...good luck and good shooting!!!

The remington 788 was remingtons savage 110.......ugly inexpensive gun that shot great.  I had one 30 years ago and loved it.  I wish I still had it....

I have three of the "Ugly Duckling" 788 in 44 RM. ALL shoot better than I can shoot.  Good loads will make Ruger fan throw their rifles in the truck and head for the nearest saloon. Make sure you get a mag with the gun as they are almost impossible to find and, when you do, they will cost MORE than the rifle itself cost years ago!
