Kimber or Winchester
« on: December 23, 2004, 08:29:48 AM »
Merry Christmas everyone,

I am looking at getting a new rifle in 7mm wsm, I am looking at the model 70 winchester featherweight, or the model 8400 kimber. I would appreciate any insight on these rifles as far as quality, and accuracy.

Thank you

If money is no object, go with the Kimber.  Otherwise, buy a battery of Winchesters.  They go for about a third of the price of the Kimber.

Well, how much money do you have?  If alot, go with the Kimber.  If not, try the Winnie.

I have a Winchester Classic SS in .270WSM and it's great.  I have a Kimber 8400 Montana (SS) in .300WSM on order, but have never held one.  Still, from what I understand, the Kimber is a much better rifle, but much more expensive.

Since the Kimber costs about three times what the Winchester costs, and since the Winchester is a fine rifle in its own right, only the buyer can tell if the higer price is worth it.

First off the Kimber ain't 3 times the cost  of a Winny------around here the std 8400 goes for $950----and the Featherweight styled Win short mags are pushing $600.

For $300---I'll take a superior trigger--better wood---a nice petite action over a sorry Winchester any day.

Zach get your money back and find a better dealer-----there are new Kimbers coming through here all the time. There were 2 Montana's in the shop just this evening---one was a .243 for sure-----the other was either a .308 or .300WSM------didn't pay close enough attention as a 7mm-08 Montana is the only one I have an interest in right now.

I have a new Kimber 84M I bought on Guns America for $699. The rifle looks and feels great. The action is not smooth at all and binds. The safety is hard to work and the action will only feed half way right, if there is only one round in the magazine. If you load the magazine full and try to chamber a round, no way it will work. There is not a better action than the CRF model 70 action. It is smooth as silk with the best trigger and safety. The Kimbers are too light for even the short magnums  in my opinion. I am a little pissed at the Kimbers right now so I would go with the Model 70. vernonp
