Tube Baits??
« on: February 11, 2004, 02:04:00 PM »
What is your favorite and how do you rig it?  Also any little secrets you want to pass along?  I prefer a tube craw rigged with a Eagle Claw 'Shaw Grisby' 4/0 hook.  I also insert a piece of foam rubber inside and fill the tube with scent.  Tossed into a bed the bass pick it up and get a burst of scent in their mouth and end up near swallowing it every time.  To bad the spawn doesn't last longer, love sight fishing beds.  Lawdog

I'm not going to be much help with using tubes but I do rig them like Shaw Grigsby does with the weight inside the tube. I have tried the strike king KV small tubes with no success a few times here.  But i have seen others here have success with them so it maybe me. And yes the bass did swallow them on the guy i seen too.                      BigBill

I guess I have to keep on trying tubes till I have success too with them.

My favorite tube is the FATASS tube.  This is a very thick tube used for flipping.  It is about as big around as your thumb.  I usually rig it Texas style with about a 5/0 Gamakatsu extra wide gap hook.  The gap must be big on the hook for a tube this size.  Depending on the coniditions I use a worm weight anywhere from 1/4- 5/8 oz.  Favorite colors are green pumpkin and black w/red fleck.

I'm going to focus on learning "tubin" this year till i get it right!!!  I watch others in my spot catch fish but i don't but i'm going to keep on trying them.  I make a habit of learning new stuff and i try it on every trip till it works.                                                             BigBill
