I did my first real shooting with the encore since putting my boyds laminated stock set on it. The only thing I did was to free float the handguard with two rubber washers. This allows about 4 thicknesses of a dollar bill to be slid between the barrel and the forearm. I had shot it with my 30/06 barrel and found it to shoot very accurately but since I hadn't shot that barrel with the synthetic stock set I figured I should try it with a barrel of known quality.

My 22-250 barrel used to shoot just under an inch but the other day I shot it was the laminated stock and found it was shooting much better than it normally did with the synthetic stock. I'm not sure if this due to the extra weight/balance of the heavier buttstock or the fact that the slighly longer length of pull fits me better. This is the first three shot group I fired at 100 yards. For some reason the POI had changed between the two stocks. The barrel had been zeroed to be 1" high at 100 yards, in the new stock it was hitting 1/2" high. It makes me wonder what this barrel would be capable of with a little stronger glass, but the Burris 3-9 ballistic plex is great for normal hunting ranges and shooting.

hey bear is the burris your using a full field 11 and if so how do you like it? i have been thinking about getting both a laminated from boyds and also a burris fullfield scope

Yes that is a burris FFII with the ballistic plex. I have been very pleased with the scope. It is clear and has proven to be very click repeatable. The ballistic plex works out very well with the tradjectory of the 22-250. It is quite easy to break a clay pigeon out to 300 yards using the different cross marks for 100, 200, and 300 yards. I haven't tried it any farther because I don't have access to a longer range to shoot at. It is fairly easy to keep three shots in MOA out to 300 yards. The only thing I would do differently is to get the 4.5-14 instead of the 3-9. The 3-9 is plenty for practical hunting ranges but with the exceptionally accuracy I have been finding in my Encore barrel I would like a little bit more glass for long range targets, just to see what my barrel is cabable of. The only thing I did to the boyds stock was to put a sims recoil pad on it and glass bed the reciever into the buttstock. Bedding the receiver was quite a scary process, it was the first time I ever glass bedded anything and the 10 hour wait to see if I had just glued my action into the butstock was interesting. It all worked out though and fits in nice and snugly, I was hoping it would add some strength to the buttstock.

In regards to that addition of the Sims Recoil pad, did you have to use a grind to fit model or did the pre fit model for the factory wood stock fit the Boyd's stock properly?

I used the prefit one made for the synthetic stock, I had to grind down the lip on the back of it. Its not a perfect fit, there is a place where the recoil pad overlapps the stock by 1/16" or so. It adds an extra inch to the LOP on the stock and that makes it fit me much better. I would try the wood stock pad that sims makes. I took my but stock right into the story to match them up to it, the T/C was the closest fit. I don't have access to a belt sand and don't the the patience to sand it down by hand. I'm pleased with it.

I've been looking at the Boyd pepper laminated stocks for my T/C Contender carbine for some time now and your stocks looked so good that it convinced me to give them a call. I just called Scott there and ordered the pepper laminated stock, tapered and bull forends.

the pad that I used was the 10031, but it has a lip on it especially for the synthetic stock, the 10030 is for the t/c walnut stock and should fit the boyds stock, it might not be perfect but fit good enough with small gaps on my stock.

I checked out the pictures and read the thread. The stocks on the T/C look great. I'm now starting to get excited about getting mine. I'll install a Kick-Eez Magnum recoil pad on mine though. I like the look of your other rifles as well but personally prefer the T/C to the others. My T/C is S/S so I'm wondering what your S/S rifle just above the T/C would look like with Boyd stocks on it.

I think the pepper laminate will look great on it.I put a pachmire(spelling?) pad on mine not for recoil but to lengthen the stock.I am 6' 3" so it fits me lots better now.i hope to get a 30-30 barrel for it sometime.

I purchased mine as a 30-30 and now have a s/s 16.5" 22LR barrel, 18.5" 10mm barrel and a 22" 45-70 barrel. If were to purchase an other barrel it would be the new .17 Hornady Mach 2. That one looks like a lot of fun for gophers in Alberta where my inlaws live. I put the Kick-Eez mag recoil pad on my synthetic stocks that I have now because of the heavy recoil from the 45-70 barrel.
