And which area is the has the highest concentration of big bucks? I like hunting in farm country is it available and are the farmers willing to give permision to hunt on their land, any help is appreciated. Thanx

i might be able to help you. i'm taking a week next year to hunt the family farm in the southeast near Oxbow-Alameda. there is a very large population in the area of both mulies and whitetails, although you have to be careful, mule deer are for residents only.i've seen some very large bucks down there. i'll talk it over with my dad and uncle(he now farms it) and you might be able to accompany us. send me a PM if your interested. as for the deer you see on the TV and in magazines those are usually from up around Prince Albert and that area, if i'm not mistaken. :D

most of the " t.v. " deer are also taken on reserve land over bait. have first hand knowledge of that!

Check the regs it seems that the fine province of SK does not like other Canadians shooting their deer. Compared to US hunters there is almost no centerfire season.

My in-laws have retired to there cabin ( Near La Ronge) We visit every Thanksgiving.  5 Years ago Non-res Canadian rifle season opened up with the residents and Non-res alien, first week of October. Now it's 2 weeks mid-late Nov (if I remember correctly).

At least I can still us a muzzleloader (bought one just for that trip every year). There are big deer there though, a cousin of mine ran a deer camp 100 k south of the in-laws lots of big deer came from his camp.  His outfit was on Buckmasters once or twice.

He use to tell the clients to book three years in a row. the first year you will shoot the biggest buck of your life (but it is actually small) the next year you will do better but on the last year you will finally know what BIG looks like.  I heard when he sold out he was booked solid for the next 3-4 years.

I don't know about the southern region but in the north it's either over/near bait, or still hunting in the snow.

Thx guys so far, for the info, I don't mind hunting with a muzzle loader have an encore have taken alot of deer with it. Here in quebec I hunt only in a black powder zone I enjoy taking deer with ML, 1 shot make it or brake it. Have shot 1 big deer here it field dressed 270lbs 7 points, main beams 25inches with a 21inch spread, pretty big but very rare for quebec especially on public land whetre there are more hunters than deer. Thats why I would like some find some place that has big deer. I enjoy challenge of calling in a big buck used to be like that here then everybody got themselves a ML. And the poaching at night  is horrendous the game wardens have arrested 15 guys just in the area that I hunt 30sq miles, sucks deer dont have a chance to mature.  Thx Dino

Howdy.  Take a map of Saskatchewan, close your eyes, spin your finger in the air, plunk it down on the map, and you have an excellent hunting spot for whitetail......seriously.  I hunted Sask. for 18 years as a resident, and there is no problem finding them anywhere.  I do not know about the guiding situation, but I find rural folk very friendly and willing to share their deer.  Try to talk to some farmers, get permission to hunt their land, and they will tell you where to find the big ones.  They lose a LOT of grain to the ever growing whitetail population.  Or, get a guide.

correct me if I'm wrong, but with the new cwd rules, isn't it against the law to transport deer from province to province??

Yellowknifedave has hit it right on.......pick a spot and start hunting!! I live in sask, and whitetail are abundant. I'm not sure about taking meat or trophies from province to province, but your right upnorth, you are not allowed to transport live animals across the boarder.

As far as getting permission from land owners......well all you have to do is spend some time talking with the farmer and curse the BSE crisis.....curse the government.......spit a lot....and your in!!
