Anyone shoot 30-30 Ackely Improved
« on: November 14, 2004, 12:10:43 PM »
Anyone shoot a 30-30 Ackely Improved, I have a 30-30 carbine bbl that I am thinking about getting rechambered.  What is the best place for good loading data so I can check velocity figures.  How much should you pay for a simple rechamber.

Thanks

I haven't shot it yet, but I have a 14" 30-30AI I got in a trade. I just don't have the time to mess with it yet, too many other irons in the fire. I was thinking about selling or trading it.

From what I've read it is a good hunting round, velocities around the mid to upper 2000's.

I would post this questions over on the H&R/NEF centerfire forum. Those gbuys can tell you a lot about the 30-30 AI. I think they may even have a reamer that is making the rounds so you can do the rechamber yourself.

Archie,

I just happen to have a T/C Contender 24" rifle barrel from the T/C Custom Shop, chambered to the 30-30 AI. I like it a lot.

Velocities with 150g bullets run 2,700-2,800 fps. and velocities with 125g bullets run 2,800-2,900 fps. and I get no signs of excessive pressures.

I have copys of Mr. Ackleys books and they lists his velocities.
My rig is very accurate, as well!

The best group to date is the 125g Nosler BT over IMR 4198, which gave up one group of .25" @ 100 yds.
