pre 64 Winchester model 94 or pre 64 Model 64

I am looking for an older winchester 30-30.
I am confused as to the collectable value for each model.
Any opinions about the merits of each?
My 2001 ATF C&R firearm list state that both are approved for C&R license. My information is that the firearm should be 50 years old unless its one of the special edition.

Why do you need a curio and relic license?  I thought that the curio/relic stuff applied to pre-1899 guns (the original pre-ban? :) ).  That, and guns that no longer had ammo available from any commercial source.  My ignorance covers a heck of a lot more ground than my knowledge, so maybe you could let me know why you need a C&R license, or if it's even shorthand for curio and relic.

Collectors' value isn't my forte, I'm strictly a shooter, but the Blue Book of Gun Values should let you know which one is worth more, at least in a ball park kind of way.  The Blue Book is only a general guide, just like the one for cars.  Supply and demand decides the final price.

I think the old Win M-64 Deluxe Deer Rifle is one of the nicest Winchesters ever made. The standard M-64 is not bad either. I have seen one M-64 Carbine as well but it lacked the graceful line of the rifle.
The 64 is a variation of the 94 and its serial #s were included in that of the 94. Happy hunting. POW

More than 2 1/2 million pre 64 model 94's and it's variations were made.  (the pre 64 mod. 64, numbering over 66 thousand, were-as a previous poster said-included in these serial numbers) So, the 64 and it's variations are rarer than carbines and rifles.  Oddly, in northern N.E., they don't seem to get prices as high as the 94  rifles in comparable condition.  Maybe up here in deer country they were just considered too fancy for serious work.  (of course, their higher initial cost might have had something to do with it!)   In my 30+ years of dealing and collecting Winchesters (primarily levers and .22's) and excluding trappers and short rifles, I'd say desirability is as follows: 1) rifles 2) pre-war carbines 3) 64's 4) post-war to 1964 carbines.  This is not meant to be a definitive guide-just my experience.  I've owned and shot 64's and like them a lot.    -Asa
