I may want to take my shotgun out deerhunting with rifled slugs because I dont have a rifled barrel. How much difference would it make between the 2 3/4 and the 3 inch shells? By the way its a 20 gauge.

2 3/4- deer dies

3- your shoulder hurts like hell, your ears ring, deer dies.

The Federal ammunition catalog shows an 80 fps advantage to the 3 inch Power*Shok slugs in 20 gauge, and .2 inch difference in trajectory out to 100 yards.

Try these, you wont be sorry. IMHO, the best full bore rifled slugs out there. You can also get a 1oz slug in the 3" 20ga., or the standard 2-3/4" load. They will cut holes and will not lead up your bore as bad as standard Remington, Winchester, Federal Foster slugs will.

Either will kill the deer.  Choose the one that gives you the best accuracy.  Sabot slugs give a bit flater trajectory, Foster type slugs can be accurate, too.  Buy some of every slug you can, and see what groups the best in your particular barrel.

deerslayer,

Sorry I didn't get back to you ealier, I meant to the other day and my puter crashed. Then I forgot I posted in this thread because I had already deleted the e-mail notification. I truely am sorry.

I see your from Pennsylvania and I am not sure what stores you have out there. Pretty much any Cabelas, Bass Pro/Outdoor World, Gander Mountain, Dunhams, MC Sports should have them. I have even heard that some Wal-Marts carry them, ours up in Michigan don't. Also any good Sporting Goods store that sells ammo should have them.

Good Luck this season!

Every Brenneke I've used laid a lot of lead down in my smoothbore Remington barrel.  If I cleaned between shots, they were very repeatable (small group sizes).  If I didn't clean between shots, the groups tended to widen way out as I shot more.  I don't want to clean between shots.  Plain old Remington Slugger rifled slugs have worked great for me (12 ga), and they're cheap.
