Uberti Iron Framed Henry???????????
« on: October 21, 2004, 06:31:12 PM »
I have been wanting an Iron framed 1860 Henry(Uberti) for a long time and have about convinced myself and the boss(Wife) that it is time to take the plunge. My question is does any of you guys have one, shot one or are familar with them? I have only handled them at Gun Shows. I know the reloads have to be kept on the mild side because of the action design. I might even try it on some White tails at moderate ranges, no more than a hundred or so yds. Any info would be appreciated. Think while I'm at it I'll go ahead and get the Case Hardened or Color Case frame which ever it is.

you didnt say what caliber you were getting
the 45lc is a pretty good gun
they offer decent accuracy the only thing i know of wrong with them is that you have to be careful abt how you load them dropping the follower on them can cause a chain fire in the mag tube
ease it down onto the nose of the top cartridge and there shouldnt be any problem
the only other thing is that if you run several rounds thru it fast the tube that you hold with your off hand can get warm and the follower  might pinch your finger as it comes down the tube or your finger might hold it back and not allow it to drop the bullet down to be picked up by the carrier
mainly just basic safety stuff with it but otherwise i decent little short range deer gun

Sorry Sureshot, that will be the 45 Colt version, and I do plan to use it on some of the smallish Whitetails back home up to about 100 to 140 lbs. Will they stand 255 gr reloads up around 1100 fps or should they be kept down to around 900 fps? The one i'm getting is the Steel frame. Should be fine out to about 100 yds or so.

I have one in 44-40 and it is a good rifle, though I prefer the 1892 for the reasons that Sureshot pointed out, which are the same as the historical reasons the side loading gate and forearm were added.  And be sure to use flat nosed bullets in all tubular centerfire magazines.

I went ahead and ordered it, should be in the first of the week. It'll join about 5 other Lever Guns I have. The last one was a BLR81 in 308 I got at a Gun Show for $200.00. Stock is a little scratched up but the metal was 95% and it shoots great. I do know about the flat point bullets in a tube mag, but thanks for the info anyway. I went ahead and ordered me some new StarLine brass, I'll keep my Winchester stuff for my 1875.
