Forestry Trunk Road in Alberta
« on: October 20, 2003, 12:07:28 PM »
I'd greatly appreciate any input from those who have hunted/frequented the Forestry Trunk Road (#40) in WMU's 316, -18, -26 and 412-420. How is the access, crowds, and deer/elk in these areas?
Thanks a ton! :D

I do not know what area we were working in but between Hinton and Grand Cache there was a ton of elk right on the road! Not much that we saw for deer. In march there may be caribou! hope this helps some!

I have hunted a fair bit in 326.  It is a good area, you can access a lot of land through logging roads, and then hike in to some great areas.  I always recommend stopping in at Caroline Supplies in Caroline for all of the latest updates on where the game is.  There is a lot of elk in there right now, although there will be more once it gets cold.  I was ouot there last week and saw several good mule deer, and one awesome whitetail, although he was quite a distance away.
Good luck

was out in 438 today between hinton and jasper, looking for whitetail but only saw 6 cow elk, cow moose with yearling and one road hunter.  if you are lucky enough to get a cow elk tag go to the kinny lake road and you will see some forshure

I was out in 326 on Monday, just west of Swan Lake, and didn't see anything legal.  The herd of elk we had a bead on last week had moved, due to the 4 sets of wolf tracks we saw.  Lots of moose sign and saw one small bull, lots of deer sign but no deer.
