CZ 527 carbine in 7.62 x 39
« on: October 16, 2004, 04:26:48 AM »
Anyone have a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39?

I was at the gun shop yesterday and handled one.  Dang if I don't NEED one now...

I wasn't real crazy about the fixed sights.  Are they zero'd pretty well for factory ammo?

My other CZ (452 American) is a real shooter and I'd expect the same from any CZ but what sort of groups do you get out of yours?

Anyone have any favorite 7.62 x 39 loads?  Thanks!

American Rifleman reviewed one.  They gave a fairly positive review.  Can't remember all the details, but I believe that the 100 yd groups (with 'scope) were 2 inches or more.  I remember thinking that wasn't much tighter than I can get with US made ammo in my Russian SKS and iron sights.  So it didn't make me want to rush out and buy one...

My youngest daughter will be using one this fall.  It has a .310 bore.  I cannot beat Wolf 154grn. Soft points for accuracy.  The gun shot very well with the original stock.  I called the US # and bought a scratch and dent stock, cut it down a bit for her.  The rifle shoots even better in this stock.  1 min. of angle.  The inletting is atrocious.  I don't have a clue why it shoots so well.  My main complaints are: 1) The safety works the opposite of what I am used to.  2) Reassembly is a somewhat tricky with the magazine catch/spring.  3) The magazine is not asthetically pleasing.  4) I don't think I will ever have the opportunity to use it.

pathfinder,
I had one for a few years.  It shot very well...slightly over 1" groups.  I scoped it and didn't use the iron sights.  But, you can adjust the sights.  The rear sight is drift adjusable and the front sight is adjustable for elevation.
Although I no longer have it, I didn't get rid of it for any reason other than I found something that I wanted more at the time.  It was a neat little rifle, and sometimes I wonder why I traded it off. :?
Best,
