enough gun for protction?

Hi
I plan to visit Alaska for fishing and eventually smal game huntin. i have a savage 24 in 3030/12 gauage which will be good for smal game hunting. my question is if it is enough for bear protection loaded with fedral 170 gr nosler over a brenneke slug? under a surprise attack one has not the time ti fire a lot of rounds and these two shots are all i have to down a bear. plese let me know your opinion.

To say that your visiting Alaska to hunt small game and fish is not much information to go on. The state is huge and conditons vary from north to south.

What time of year, what type of fish and where would certainly help?  You should first read the hunting and fishing regulation in the http://www.state.ak.us/local/akpages/FISH.GAME/.

The Savage V-24 in 30-30/12ga is my favorite survival gun.  It also was my first gun back when I was a teen.  Just one problem with it, it's awful heavy.  I am afraid that the tendancy would be to leave it leaning against a tree, or on the bank while you fish.  

Is it enough gun?  Well that depends, if you can wait till the target is real close.  YES!  The 12ga that is.  The 30-30 is a little light for most things here.
