S&W Model 27-2
« on: November 13, 2004, 02:11:35 PM »
Hi Guys, This is my first visit to your forum, I'm usually on the H&R forum, but I was hoping someone could help me with some info about my latest purchase. It is a S&W Model 27-2, Blue with the 3 1/2" barrel. It is pinned and recessed and the serial# is 11XXX. It is as close to mint condition as I think I'll find. Any idea of age and or value? What was the last year for the pinned and recessed models? Thanks for any help you guys can give.- Jeff

I am sure you will get the info you need from the people on this forum, but if you are really into the Smith's, and you want the big time run down from Smith & Wesson nuts, check out www.smith-wessonforum.com  those guys know their Smith's.
A bad day of hunting is better than a good day at the golf course.

winchester1:  I have the same revolver - actually, mine started life as a 28-2, the Highway Patrolman - the plain jane version of yours, but then I sent it off to S&W to make it look like yours.  Mine was made in the late 60s and has a 6 digit serial number, so yours copuld be a bunch older.  I think the -2 designation with the recessed chambers was phased out in the late 70s or early 80s.

Even though this is one beautiful revolver, most dealers look askance at the older blue steel guns in favor of the newer stainless versions of the same.  In this neck of the woods you could get that piece for around $350 - maybe even a bit less if you were a good talker.

That revolver could be at least 40 years old or older.  It doesn't matter, S&W will continue to service it if necessary.  But even at its age, I'm sure that Model 27 can still shoot.  HTH.  Mikey.
