That's a matter of personal opinion, and since you asked, I've got a receiver mount on my 1895.  Seems that a lot of the guys go with a scout mount and are very happy with that......My guess is it will probably be about 50 / 50.....half scout and half receiver......

Marlin 1895 scope....

I just went with a set of ghost ring sights and the scout mount with 2.5 IER leupold scope for my Stainless Guide Gun.  I also went with the heavy post reticle in the scout scope and quick release mounts.  The main reason I went with the scout mount and ghost ring sights is I would perfer to have the rifle with the ghost ring sites for close range backup work.  The lack of the scope will make it a little easier to manuver thru really heavy brush.  I mainly want this for if I have to go into the thick stuff to track a big bear.  I also think that the scout scope is better for really quick target aquisation than a receiver mounted scope because you can keep both eyes open.

If I were to use my GG for mainly deer or elk I would probably opt for a receiver mounted 1.5-5x20 leupold VXIII.  The higher magnification would be better for longer range shooting.  The 45/70 is easily good out to 200 yards on elk or deer and 150+ range yardage would be a lot easier with the reciver mounted scope.

Basically it boiled down to how I will be hunting with it.  If I still lived in MI I would definately go with the reciever mount, but since I now live in AK and the action can be very fast and furious up here I went with ghost ring sights with the scout mount.  Even with the heavy post reticle I can still accurately aim out to 150-200 yards on moose and it is a lot faster to find than thinner crosshairs in heavy brushy areas.
