i went in to get my waterfoul licence the day b fore season opend.. the pretty young blue eyed girl after surveying hundreds of hunters for the fur fish and game replied, "you only shot one duck last year"?..   i never can come up with the ansewer until the next day..   "well i hunted on opening day only, use a cylinder bore longstock  flintlock ... ,  shooting a duck with a flintlock is kind of like baking a wedding cake with a  mattel toy  oven.".      oh well it goes with the territory.. at 56 years old, its not about numbers anymore, its about waching the sun come up, and haveing a good time with my sons..  hunting brings men and thier sons/daughters  together for some reason that just cant be equaled in other ways..   dave

i forgot to mention, i got a green winged teal this morning here in the helena area,  my son had quit duck hunting when he was thirteen and is 20 now and got two his first day out in years..  about 7 years ago he kept wounding ducks and they were getting away and i told him he had to practice or should not go hunting..  this year he went to the trap club with me for several times and  then we practiced cross shots after work one day..i know he remembers well what i told him 7 years ago, and will pass this on to his children.. needs to be said, taught, and followed by the instructor also..    we had a great time.  dave..

I can relate to coming up with the right answer too late, I'm hoping that it is just a quirk with being in the 50's and that it will go away with the 60's!!!
It's a good lesson I agree with whole heartedly that doesen't seem to be taught like it used to be.
I am glad you got him back in the field with you though.  My youngest (the hunter in the family) is still in Korea and is missing another hunting season and I'm missing his company and his way of telling the tales of the hunt.
I guess that you can see that your post kinda touched home, and made for a good smile and fond memories.
