Hello Pookie -- it is allowed, as long as the overall length of pistol and scope does not exceed 18 inches. -- Philip Braud

The overall length must be 25 inches or less for an Unlimited Standing or UAS gun.

Steve - this is true. I thought that he may have been inquiring about Field Pistol!

Also, according to common sense (which in this case aligns well with the rulebook) you cannot grip the scope in such a way that would put your hand within the "safety cone" of the muzzle.  I seriously doubt that anyone would endure lead shavings in your hand anyway. :)

From page 10 of the 2004 IHMSA Rule book:

B. Unlimited
3.  The overall length of the sighting apparatus including hoods, covers, tubes, sunshades, extensions, or other device shall not exceed 18 inches.

Could not find scope length field pistol mentioned in the rule book.

Try posting the question on IHMSA's site.  Someone there would probably know.

Thanks,
Rick

Rick - IHMSA Field Pistol is a Production class - therefore, look at page 8 of the 2004 IHMSA rule book. My above statement is correct for Field Pistol, and Volleyman's (Steve M.) statement is correct for Unlimited Any-Sight and Unlimited Standing --- Philip Braud Louisiana Director IHMSA
