Help needed to fix a Remington problem.   I have a left handed 700 Mountain rifle in .270.    The pia J saftey rubs against the trigger saftey.  They rub each other when I put the trigger saftey on and off.  When the bolt is moved forward, they miss each other by about the width of a sheet of paper.  Then when the bolt is cammed down, the touch.   I have called the remington custom shop where I purchased the gun from, and they advised they could not remove the J saftey.   Common sense would dictate making a J saftey for the right side of the bolt.   I am a little dissapointed in the lack of help from the custom shop.    I was advised th check with parts to see if I can by "bolt/bolt shrouhd" without the saftey.   My concern is that over time, this chaffing may cause a problem with my trigger saftey, leaving a major liability issue for Remington.     Any thoughts of feed back on a way to eliminate the J saftey.    Thanks for the help.   None from Remington.

Bolt shrouds without the idiodic safety lock are available from aftermarket suppliers and several are carried by Brownells..

Can you not bend the safety lever outward slightly so as not to rub the lock?
I can't stomach the safety, but on right hand guns it's out of sight, out of mind.
Were I you, I would consider three things
1)  A STRONG insistance that Remington fix it right

2) An aftermarket bolt shroud that does away with the stupid safety

or, and the one I like best

3) Another manufacturers gun

The third will let Remmy know we disapprove and do it with dollars. That'll get the big green bean counters thinking, maybe, if that's possible for them.

I thought I would take a moment to give Remington accolades since majority of the threads are negative.   I contacted the regarding the J saftey problem.   She confirmed the serial number on  my gun, and that it was only 4 months old.   Needless to say, I have a new firing pin/bolt shroud assemby in the mail courtesy of Remington, with out the J saftery.  I could not have asked for better service.   Every time I have need help, they were 1st class with the customer service.     I will continue to be a loyal customer.

I, like Curly, have always recieved prompt courtious service from the rem rifle corp...The only thing Remington I do not like is the corelokt...Just my own personal prefrence since I have had problems with them in the past..Cant figger out why alot of People dont like Rem's..My old 30.06 is dang near 40 years old with hundreds of rounds fired through it and it STILL holds .5 moa at 100 yards...Now you tell me isnt that what we would ALL like from our weapons??? I know I like it maself when I KNOW I can trust my rifle to do what I tell it to do..

Unfortunately replacing just the bolt shroud won't do the trick. The firing pin assembly and spring as well must be changed. I ordered mine from Brownell's and it is a Gre-Tan assembly and comes with a matte finished shroud.

Thanks OldeElk,         According to the parts pictures for Remington, this includes a full system as you ordered from Brownells.     I advised the gun came  from the custom shop, and was all stainless including the trigger group.    Customer service advised that was not a problem, and the would ship the whole assembly.    I am not sure if the internal parts as you listed are indeed stainless, and of the bolt shrould is stainless, or just painted silver to match the other stainless parts.     I post a reply when it arrives.    Thanks for the heads up.
