Ultra accurate .357 magnum (not Maxi) load

This is a three shot group I shot to see if the zero on the scope was good. It has proven to be an ultra accurate load for me.

Yes it is. I believe due to the long throat, these bullets set out to the lower cannelure, would probably have worked before the ream job. This load has been the most accurate to go through the barrel.
I tested it back in the spring at 100 yds, and it gave rifle type accuracy.

Vance,

I put 3 shots into .87" today at 100 yards using 250 gr Beartooths.  I also shot a 2 liter full of water with that load at 100 yards, but it doesn't explode like a 180 XTP/HP does!

I may give your load a try, except I'll have to use H110 instead of W296.

Mag41vance:

Nice shooting......

Did you change primers with the second load???...From the looks of it you used Federal primers on the 5 shot string ...and then switched to CCI..??? Did you shoot any 5 shot strings to see if the accuracy continued to improved much more...with the ??? switch...?

Yes, the batch from the spring load was with the Federal GM small rifle primers. I wanted to see if different primers would matter.

From the looks of your 3 shot group...it looks like the different primers shrunk your groups down somewhat...and that's a good thing...

Could be, but the real tight group had a 50 yard head start, so I won't know for sure until I test the cci 550 primers at 100 yards.

250 grains? That is a heck-of-a heavy bullet for the .357 mag. What's the velocity? Sounds like an excellent beaver load.
I also will load a few of my mix with H-110 to see if they perform the same.

Vance,

I checked them again yesterday and they are still running right at 1200 fps using 250 gr Beartooth LFNGC, CCI 400, 7.5 gr 800X seated in the crimping groove.  It's long, but it fits in my standard barrel without a probelm.  The Taylor KO on them is 15.  This is actually a Whelen bullet, but I have shot up to 220 gr jacketed .358" bullets without a problem.  The long throat on the standard barrel really let's you load the bullets long!

DJ may have something in the same class as what I'm loading.
