Will be picking up my Hornet tomorrow afternoon, and breaking it in at the range by 3:00 pm.  Will be Iron sights only till I can get a Scope mount.
But have 50 Remington factory loads & 50 handloads to play with.

Jim,

I know you'll enjoy that Hornet!

Mine is a SL or SY 20" barrel and it will shoot less than 1" at 100 yards using 13.5 gr Lil'Gun with CCI 400, 40 gr V-Max and Rem brass.  It's a compressed load, but I never have any signs of high pressure.  Runs about 2750 fps.  I load them long at 1.935" after using a Lee collet neck sizing die.  I haven't gotten accuracy that good using Win brass, which compresses the powder more than Rem brass.

Hey, let us know how it shoots!  Should have a nice day for sighting it in.  7mph winds right now, sunny, cool.  I wish I could get out there today!

later,

Am sure I will enjoy this! Can`t say when I had a new rifle project I looked forward to more.

My normal break-in regiment is to shoot 1 clean for 5 founds and then shoot 5 rounds and clean, till it is not fouling.

My first loading is Remington Brass, WSR primers, 12grn Lil Gun and a Sierras 45grn Varminter #1210(I think).
Since I intended to use these for break-in I saw no reason to go over Hogdons Min. Load.
But your Right Paul, seems like everyone likes Lil Gun in the 13grn-13.5 grn range.

Scruffy, this will be done tomorrow(which is also supose to be nice) there`s a little hitch called money killing today. I get paid tomorrow and am taking the afternoon off.

Today I picked up my hornet, a stop at Mc Donalds and to the Range by 3Pm.

this little rifle is an absolute Blast!
My first impression was it seemed heavy for a 22" Synthetic Singleshot. But it only took a second to notice it balanced beautifully. Weight centers in the hands and is not noticed.
The rifle shoot very nicely offhand( slightly muzzle heavy) but steadies up nicely using a Hasty- Sling.
100yd Rams at the Range were piece of cake(pistol sihloette range). Mind you this was Iron sights and I am a half blind 54yr old.
The Barrel broke in quite easily out of the 99 rounds I had with me 77 were shot through the rifle.
Won`t talk about Group Size, since I have trouble seeing 50yds with iron sights well enough to hold the same spot consistantly.
I will say many were close enough to be promising with a scope.
like two shots within 3 calibers and a third off an inch

Will order the scope mount Monday, because I see many fun days afield with this rifle!!
For the dollars invested it is a Bargain in fun!

Jim,

I knew you would like it!    The only thing I like better is my .357 barrel.

I think I would try for Late winter after most Hunting seasons close, that way you will have it to shoot come fair weather.
UH, UH I am trying to decide which barrel is next??
Maybe something toatally impractical in Iowa since rifles can`t be used for big game. Like I`ve always wanted a big Bore Milk Bottle Buster, 45/70 should fill the bill??
