How can I shorten the stock? (Benelli Nova)
« on: June 10, 2004, 09:51:06 AM »
I have a 12 Benelli Nova pump that I really like and shoots great! The problem is that the pump to long for me and I would like to shorten the stock about 2" or more but don't know what would cut the hard plastic?
Do you know how to cut this type of stock? Would a gun smith be able to do it? Any help will be appreciated!! Thanks! :D

vhunter:

I had the same question on synthetic stocks before I got my first one. I asked the folks at the local Gander Mtn and they said that it was no problem for a gunsmith to cut off a synthetic stock to shorten it. Being stature challenged myself, I went with a youth model so I did not have to actually get the stock cut-off done. Reckon it depends on the particular smith to a certain extent so I would check with your local smith and verify that they could/would do it before purchasing.

Synthetic stocks are reinforced plastics and other than being more abrasive than wood, most should cut fairly well if you are looking to DIY. Still I would recommend doing some investigation and if possible taking some test cuts before making the final cut.

you will reduce the value considerably if you shorten the gun this much.. if it is an inexpensive meat gun so be it.  i dont know anything about your gun or you, but it seems your trying to get your pump hand too far forward.. the pump should work fine with your hand in the center or rear of the front stock..but i dont have enough info here to give you good adveice.. id go shootingwith a shotgunner or talk to a gunsmith wit the gun with you and get some hands on advice..  good luck dave.

Anything that will cut wood will also cut plastic. A saw with finer teeth, like a backsaw, will leave a smoother cut. As far as resale value of the gun, I would order a replacement stock and cut that, then you can put the original back on when you want to sell. I have done this with wood stocked guns. I have also cut the original for a child and then bought a full size when he grew. The extra "youth stock" thrown in can help make a sale.
