The FG is going to get a scope!
« on: June 03, 2004, 02:46:57 PM »
Well went and ordered mounts and scope rings for the 41mag today.

Called Leupold today to see if they had a mount for 1894 Marlins,
they said they did not have any listing for a 1894. They gave me a number to call for someone who does. Warne......., never heard of them but they are out of Oregon also if I remember correctly.
Mounts and rings were $77.00 total.  :eek: But the man at Warne said if I did not like them I could send them back for a full refund. WOW that's unusal. Hey with a deal like that its worth a try.
Took the Leupold off the H&R Ultra, its a M8-4X33 fixed power.
After Papajohn said to scope it, I've really been thinking about it and decided to do it.
I think the FG is going to be my primary deer rifle, I like it that much.
Gonna set the Remington Model 7FS in 7mm-08 to the side, its been with me the last 15 years.
But there is something about this Marlin that one just falls in love with, is it that beautiful walnut stock, it being a lever action, or is it the caliber, I don't know but I sure do like it. :-)

Mine is at the smiths getting the trigger worked on right now.  I have an extra Leupold 2x pistol scope laying around.  I am thinking about getting one of the Ashley mounts and using it as a scout scope if the eye relief will work.  I need to tape it to the gun and check the eye relief when I get it back.

Bullseye;

A good friend of mine, the one who helpd me get started in reloading, put a 2X leupold on his old Peruvian Mauser Carbine in 7X57. It really worked well for him and he shot several deer with it. He machined it to fit on the rear sight. I've held it before and the sight picture is amazing for a pistol scope. I think you will be well pleased  with it once you get it one there.  :wink:
Keep me informed.

I just picked up an 1894P in .44 mag and threw a 1.5- 4.5 Bushnell I had on my 10/22 on it. Took it to the range for the first time yesterday and could not believe the fun I had. Shot it out to 100 yards and had no trouble hitting a 6 inch circle. Just a weaver setup. $6 rail and some millet rings I had laying around. This is going to be my primary whitetail rifle this season. I'm gonna reserve the M70 in 6.5x55 and the Encore in .260 for watching fields.

de41mag, I used to think scoping a levergun was heresy, but my eyes just aren't what they used to be.  My Marlin 336 now wears a Burris 3X9, mounted on the receiver, and now shoots 1" groups, even when it's me pulling the trigger! :eek: I put the scope on to test loads, then swore I'd yank it off when I was done, but now I'm sold.  I may pull it off, but when I do it will be to replace it with an IER scope in XS mounts, out in front of the action, so the carry-ability isn't ruined.  After that, there are going to be a LOT of rounds headed downrange!

The same goes for my Marlin 44 Mag.  I might even scope my honey's 1894-C (if she'll let me  :roll: )  but now that I've joined a range, it's time to do some SHOOTIN'!  By the time I get done testing loads, they're gonna need a new backstop! :twisted:

De41mag -
I have Warne Maxima Quick disconect rings and bases on both my Marlins.  Trust me, you WILL NOT be sending them back!  And yes, they really DO return to zero when remounting them.

The Marlin 375 sports a Leupold M8 4x33 in the Warne rings and it works great.  I think you have an excellent setup for the 41.

Coyote Hunter;

A BIG THANKS for your reply.
I was wondering what I was getting, since I've never heard of Warne before. And that's just what I ordered, the Maxima Quick Disconnect mounts and rings.
So I'm at ease now since I paid $77.00 for the set-up. Seemed a little steep in price. But I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for.

Again, Thanks.  :D
