I have a chance to pick up a like new Marlin lever gun in 45-70 Govt. This gun looks like it is brand new and doesn't have a scratch on it. The interior of the action does not have a scratch in there either so the gun has not been fired more than a few times. There is eight cartridges missing from a box of shells that goes with it so I am guessing that is how many times it has been fired. It has been kept inside a gun cabinet and is in perfect condition.

What is this gun worth?

Gun values vary from one region to the next, and also from seaon to season.

Marlin 1895SS rifles are selling new for about $450.

Marlin 1895CB (Cowboy) rifles are selling new for $500-$600.

These are (Arizona) Southwest prices at gun shows and shops in the last two months.

Offer $400 for it.I paid $419 for my blued guide gun.

You might want to check with some local dealers and price some new and used guns of the same model to get a better idea of what it might be worth. Prices vary in different regions. Around here they range from $425 - $450 used, in like new condition. You might expect to pay a little less if bought from an individual.
