Sako Key Conecept - Possibly Dangerous?
« on: August 15, 2004, 03:32:45 PM »
I read a few messages on a different forum   that Sako was now dispensing with the Key-Concept system for all new 75's, with the option to retrofit to Key-Concept system. Is this true?

Also, some had written that the current Key-Concept system may, in the case of some failures, allow gasses to be directed back toward the shooter. Has anyone heard about this issue?

Regards

I haven't heard of such issues, but I'm not too crazy about the lock on my Sako 75 either.

I don't like the concept, it's rather like the automatic safety. I have had a gun with an automatic safety and I got rid of it because it was such a nuisance.  If they can make the lock so it doesn't affect the operation and reliability of the gun at all, then it's OK with me: I can just unlock it, discard the key, and use it as I normally would.

That is my feeling too.  We have 2 Sako 75's in the house with another 75 on the way.  To tell you the truth, for the 2 we have, I don't know where the keys even are.  I did not want them with the rifles so they would never be used to lock things up and then be lost.  But I have never  had problems with them or heard of anyone else having problems.  Sounds like a good question to e-mail them about.  I think I will tonite and see what happens.

Just replaced the key lock with a regular shroud..looked at a couple of places and believe it or not beretta was the cheapest at 128 dollars shipped(SS) so its done and it looks great. Did not have a problem with the key lock just didn't like to worry about the key. I kept it just in case I ever break a firing pin(Not)
