A day at the Range

I spent part of the afternoon at the range today.  I thought I'd post what I saw as far as the firearms that showed up.  Some may be a surprise, some really surprised me.

I took one of my Remingtons up to make sure it's still on target and after I got done I got to talking to a bunch of people who showed up to do the same.  I was there for about 4 hours.

There were:

      (2) Marlin 30-30  

      (1) Marlin 35 Rem

      (1) Marlin 444

      (1) Marlin 357

      (1) Ruger 358  (I was impressed by this one)

      (2) Ruger 30-06

      (2) Ruger 308

      (1) Ruger 243

      (1) Ruger #2 30-40 Krag  (I was drooling)

      (1) Ruger #2 45-70 (same guy with the Krag)

      (2) Remington 7600 30-06

      (2) Remington 7600 308

      (1) Remington 7mm-08

      (1) Remington .54 In-line

      (1) Remington 7mm Mag

      (2) Remington 30-06 (Bolt)

      (1) Remington XP-100  6mm BR

      (4) Winchester 94 30-30

      (1) Winchester 257 Roberts  (pre-64)

      (1) Savage 30-06

      (1) Savage 308

      (1) Encore 223

      (2) Marlin 22

      (1) Daisy BB Gun (A 6 yr old kid - Ear Muffs, Safety Glasses and all)

What surprised me was that quite a few of the Levers didn't have scopes and the ones that did, a majority were low powered.   Like a straight 2 1/2 power and a 1.5x5x32.  The (2) #2's had 2x7x32.  I saw just (1) 3x9x50mm scope, the rest were 40mm or under.

Bear Season opens tomorrow and deer season the following monday.  Such is Life in Pa.

Next weekend the range will be even busier with alot more different calibers.  Which is when I predict that I will see more of the Mags in action.

One week later and it was a strange day at the range.  Hardly anybody showed up, but the ones that did were shooting some strange stuff.

One guy had a re-worked Mauser .30-06.  It had a FN receiver and it sounded like a little pop-gun going off, so I asked him what he was shooting.  He had 169 gr cast bullets loaded with 13 grains of 700 going at 1750 fps.  I gotta admit, I don't understand the whole idea of that.

Another guy pulled out a 8" Colt Python with the Nickel finish and started firing away.

While there were some Rugers and Remingtons, nothing like it should have been 2 days before the deer opener.  Most of the time they wait till the last minute.

I guess there's always tomorrow.

:lol:  :lol:  :lol: Good one VictorCharlie.  If the lines were not so long I would shoot the day before season also just for grins.  I shoot almost year around (except when the snow gets over 2 ft deep cuz it is too hard to walk 100 yds).  But is is fun to see what "hunters" are trying to shoot and how they go about it.  Sometimes I just have to shake my head  :?

That Daisy BB gun....It was a very valuble experience. Didn't even shoot my eye out.

Yes, I am and always will be on zero.


One thing I learned yesterday though.....


Deer can fly.


One of the guys that showed up at the range yesterday said he just bought a new .338 Mag and said he didn't have a chance to shoot any deer with it yet.

Another guy said:  "Wait until you shoot a deer with that .338, you can see them fly out of the scope".  

Ya learn something new every day.
