Silver Bear ammo in a Mini-14 ?
« on: April 06, 2004, 06:47:17 PM »
Can someone shed some light on Silver bear ammo .223
as far as weather or not the steel cased ammo will damage the chamber or the firing pin or extracter. I know it is not laquered so that is not a concern.
Failure is not an option

steel cased ammo in your Mini-14 should not cause any problems.  Steel cased ammo has been used for years and by many different governments, including our own.  The primers will not be damaged as they are not steel, just the case.  The only way I could possibly imagine uncoated steel cased ammo hurting a chamber is if you got some crud or abrasive crud on the cases as they were feeding, otherwise I wouldn't hesitate to use steel cases.  I use the steel cases S&B ammo in my 7.62x39s and have used it in my Mini-14 without problems.  HTH.  Mikey.

Lacquered steel cases require a bit of maintenance to remove the buildup but the nickled steel Silverbear ammo will cause no problems...  Shoots pretty good to, at least the 7.62x39 does in my brothers SKS..
