Dan Wesson 15-2VH 4" Some Problems
« on: April 06, 2004, 02:17:18 PM »
I just got a Like New DW 15-2 in 357 Magnum.
The ejector rod was stripped out but everything else is 100%
I have a Email friend in Ohio that used to work for and with Dan Wesson
He had a few extra Ejector rods and one is on the way now.
I hope the Ejector is OK
If I knew the thread size and pitch I would run a tap down in it first.
The ejector rod must be made of Soft Metal.
If the ejector is stripped I'll have to send it to DW to get it repaired.
The rod should be here Wednesday and I'm going shooting Thursday.
He told me to just tighten it with a scrap of thick leather and pliers just snug it up and use no antisieze or anything.
Thanks Dan Wesson
Take a Look at the Monson Mass. DW, Cost was $295

I just went threw the same thing with mine. I called Dan Wesson and asked them about it. They told me to use some blue lock-tite.

After my last shooting session I cleaned my gun. Then I found the extractor loose again.  Truthfully I don't know if I didn't clean it good enough before putting the lock-tite on, or if by using brake cleaner to clean with loosened up the lock-tite.

Buy the way, nice gun. I just love those Monson's.  Cal

Thanks for that tip.
I have Blue Lock-Tite but was told by the former DW smith not to use anything on it and to snug it tight with a piece of thick leather and a pair of Pliers...
My new Ejector Rod should be in the mail today, Let's hope so because I'm going to the Range tomarrow.
I want to shoot this fine Older Monson Mass. DW 15-2VH4.
I'll bet my Taurus and Ruger are gonna get Jelouse.
I will clean the pieces with acetone or Blake Parts Cleaner .
I'm not sure about the locktite????
I was thinking about Anti-Sieze,Don't want it ruined again.
By the way there was blue on the rod when I got it, Probobly the original Owner,I think that's what stripped it out?
I'll post back after I get it Healed..
Thanks Gary / Dan Wesson.... New DW Owner
And I'll take some pics with the Pachmayr On It.

I just recieved the New ejector Rod and it's Healed!
Part # 22 was stripped..
Simply replaced the Rod and it was fixed.
Also I put a bit of Anti-Sieze on it and tighted it with pliers wrapped with a scrap of thick leather..I was afraid to use Locktite.

Leather Didn't Work Extractor Rod Was Loose Again
« Reply #5 on: April 11, 2004, 05:24:56 AM »
The leather didn't work.
Mine came loose yesterday too.
I have cleaned it with acetone and applied Blue locktite on the rods threads and am letting it dry before I assemble it.
And then I'll tighten it with my padded Robo-Grips and a scrap of Leather.
I'll post back after the next range setion..
I'm doing a detailed stipped cleaning on the DW now.
Most accurate Handgun I ever Shot.. Damn Good!

When you say you cleaned it with acetone, did you use hardware store type stuff, or fingernail polish remover. I called the automotive store and had them read me the instruction's. They said to let it sit 15 min. before assembly. They also said to use activator first. But they didn't have it, and neither did any of the store's in my area. I wonder if it's anything special, or just a cleaner. I looked on the permatex website. It didn't give any real info. But I did see where they had a blue locktite for oily surfsace's. I wonder if the problem we are having is just not getting it clean enough. Cal

I used to be a mechanic and have used every type of locktite there is.
The blue is for parts that may be removed.
The Acetone is from Home Depot and cleans very well and dries very quickly leaves no residue behind.I used a pipe cleaner soaked with acetone to clean the female part.
I found if you put the locktite on the part first and let it dry,About an hour that it will cut into it while appliying and hold better,Those Hot Magnum rounds must be torture on the parts.
The locktite is like a plastic...
Good Luck..

The ejector rod is still tight and the Blue locktite was the trick.
SIG Sauer grip screws also always need this stuff.
Got 6 guns to clean now! I also do my Berettas grip screws with the Blue.
Also no tight or sticking chambers,Only shot quality Federal and Remington Magnum rounds only.
The DW was and is 100% the accuracy keeps getting better.
1/2" groups @ 100 yards
I am waiting for the RARE Factory checkered Wood finger groove grips, I also snagged a set of Hogue Rubber for $15.53.. For my Pistol Pack.
I need the Case ,the belt Buckle, patch, extra sights and a 4" schroud and a        2 1/2" barrel. I also need the extra sights and a few other goodies.
Your avatar is great showing your Pistol pack.
Check Mine new avatar out it's a modified pic of a early DW Logo with the barrel that I have.
I also have the cylinder gap set at .0025" it was alot better there than at .006" Heres the Pic of the Dirty DW along with several other Dirty Guns.

And I meant 1 1/2" group @ 100 yards not 1/2"
I'm not that good with it YET, It's capable though.

Good thing you corrected that. I was just about to bust ya on that one. :D

I can't even see the target at 25 yard's. My eye's are starting to go, and I'm only 43. And yes, that IS the first thing to go ,,,so far.

My gun is very capable too,,but I'm not. I can't hold the gun steady enough. Even when I sit down I still get a some what non consistant pattern. But I do get some good group's and even dead center's.  My kid went shooting with me the last time I went. He had never shot this gun before, and he put his first 3 shot's in the center, with all 3 touching each other. I couldn't even see them in the black. I told him he missed the target. He said "BULL",,,They're all in the center". I made him bring it in, and damned if he wasn't right.  Dam young wipper snapper's. I'm seriously considering a scope when I get some extra cash. At least then I'll be able to see the target's,,,,,lol.

BTW,,,is your name Chris. I saw someone on another site talking about the same cylinder problem as you. So,,,,,what's your name. Or is it really Dan. :)  Cal

No My name is Gary S. I'm a DW nut and have only had it for 4 weeks.
I have aquired 2 extra barrels. 4 grips.Barrel Tool Kit.
And I bought a .002"-.054" brass feller gauge set from Sears.
I set it right at .0025" DW says between .002"-.006"...
I was watching the gap as I warmed it up,Thought it might change a little but stayed exactly at .0025".
I am 38 years old my oldest Son is 21 years old am I'm aging Quickly.
I can see OK, With my glasses on. I get better groups/shots when shot freehand with the left hand supporting the grip,Like I shoot all my Automatics
And 1 1/2" was the best group of the day with the Remington 125gr SJHPs
I gotta get some Black Hills and try to sandbag it.
I might get a Grip Blank from my buddy at the gunshows.$ 25???
I'm gonna look for an old brown sampsonite briefcase and make me a pistol pack up with all the goods.
I'm gonna turn my Buddy from the Ruger forum on to this Forum,He is a Ruger Collecter and used to work for DW in the late 70s and learned from the Late Master Dan Wesson himself.
He's very knowledgable about DWs..
He's helped me a bunch,Sent that Ejector Rod to me without even paying?
I had to mail him a check for $7..
He is at a gunshow in Ohio this weekend and said he'd try and find me a black undercut Partridge front sight for the DW..
DW Gary S.
& what forum did you see that on?
Glock Talk, Beretta Forum, SIG Forum, S&W Forum, Ruger Forum???
I'm a member at all of these + some.
