Do you run around 'half naked' ?
« on: July 07, 2026, 04:46:43 AM »

What ever happened?  It seems at least 4-5 times a week I am asked, "hey Gramps, loan me your pocket knife" ?  Why doesn't every man carry a pocket knife?  It seems that any man caught without a pocket knife in the 1950s or 1960s, may as well have been partially naked! ...And some women carried purse knives too! Why not today? Do you still carry one, or do you run around "half nekkid"?

I carry one 98.6 percent of the time, but I lose them too often when I am doing garden or yard work. :o

Can't think of when I don't have one in my pocket. Maybe when I'm lounging around the house with my lazy shorts on.

I carry one just about all the time, and have all my life.  We traded them in highschool and junior high home room.  To answer the question, schools have banned them as "bad" "evil" weapons that kill people.

I wasn't allowed entry into the local court house because I had a small pen knife.  Seems these days, little makes and sense.

There?s one in my pocket almost 100% of the time. I have a drawer full, some I bought 40 years ago. It?s a natural part of my attire.

Don?t worry, they have DEI hires there to protect you. When you need help, cops are generally only 5 minutes away.

My wife was in the hospital earlier this year. They wouldn?t let me in because I had a small muti-tool on me. Absolutely stupid. There were a hundred tools in that place I could have grabbed if I?d wanted to do real damage.

Up here, if  you are going to the Trauma Center, a place where you sit for one half hour till they get to you, real often, you have to empty your pockets.

Mostly not. Except when going to the Hospital to visit or for an appointment. But the first time I ran into that was a couple of yeas ago when I was having a stroke. Went thru the metal detector to the ER and had to empty my pockets. Had several knives in my pockets. In my confused state, I managed to knock the bowl on the floor and knives went flying everywhere. Fortunately my daughter was there, having driven me in, and picked them all up and took them out to her car. But the cops were all standing up with their hands on their pistols. I thought I was going to get shot; knew I was in trouble.
Spent three days getting treated for the stroke before they sent me home.

I have carried a pocket knife since I was six. That?s a long time, believe me. Generally, if I have a pocket, there?s a knife in it. I don?t understand, either.

Yes, trading pocket knives etc., seems like it was a regular event during my school years.  Must have started such swapping in about 5th or 6th grade. Mostof the time I upgraded by trading, but some times I was "taken to the cleaners", by a knife that wouldn't hold an edge.

I said earlier I lost a LOT of knives, and they were the ones I usually had spent good
money for.  -  well I always forget, between my Dad and Grandfathers, I have a fairly good number of
knives I could just sharpen up and be just as usable, for free, as the one I bought and lost.

Me also!  Then I stopped carrying one altogether when they wouldn't let me in the Court House (where I worked!) with one in my pocket!

Zounds !  How do they expect an esteemed barrister to sharpen his quills without a proper pen knife ! I would wager they never denied John Adams or John Hancock their knives at the door !

They give you a machine gun as a kid then will not let you carry a pocket knife as a man.

I know the feeling, when folks started being mean with those dreaded Asshalt guns, I got rid of all my weapons including those multi bladed pocket knives. No one needs more than one 2 inch blade. We all know that knives kill. The one toting it just happen to be holding it while it does it's dirty work.
the right/left yardstick is a French Revolution-born human measure. It reflects the political spectrum, which is determined by the people’s range of beliefs. Christians, however (and everyone, in fact), should make Truth their yardstick. This inerrant guide doesn’t compromise and build consensus, either; it’s not a politician. It dictates where reality lies. And in a civilization claiming 2+2=5, it’s with the “extremist” who insists it’s 4. For God’s realism so often is man’s radicalism.

Nope, don't walk around half naked tho I do sleep fully naked. Does that count?

Around the house I mostly wear sweat pants with just elastic to hold them up so I don't add any weight to the pockets of them. But I have knives in every room in the house even the bathroom and in here in the computer room.

If I go out I do always have a knife in my pocket tho and I also have knives in my Lexus and in my John Deere Gator just in case I forgot to put one in my pocket. I have no clue how many knives I have but way more than I actually need.

I can't rightly say I ever traded off a knife as a youth and don't recall doing so as an adult. I've gifted knives to friends and from time to time have lost some but always seem to find them again.

I have a really old small Case brand hunting knife that was always perfect for field dressing squirrels and rabbits and the like and it was used on some deer also. One day the snap on the holster came open and I lost it. Wow what a lost, I bought that knife as a boy. I followed my path all the way back to where I gutted the deer and found it. I sure never carried it on my belt after that. I put it in my pack.

I have a nice custom knife gifted to me by GBO member Jeff Gleason many years ago. It's a nice knife with what I think is burl wood for the scales. Very nice and holds and edge well. I keep it and one of my two Cabela's fixed blade knifes in the kitchen to use in cutting up maters, pepper and such for the freezer or table.

I was rummaging through my wife?s mom and stepdad?s house. They have both passed on. What my bil and her sister did not take was a large case kitchen knife that is now resting in my knife block. Not overly valuable but I like and use it in the kitchen. Kind of off topic but I have been knife busy as of late which is not a bad thing IMO.

Years ago, it was a custom for grandpa to pass on a well worn pocket knife to a grandson.  ...A knife that has sliced many an apple, carved a wooden plug, picked slivers,
cut baler twine and sundry other routine tasks..

Now that some guys are not carrying, they can't likely have a well worn pocket  knife to pass on, so Case solved that problem for them !  :D ;D
