    Damascus..oldest continually occupied city in the world, founded between 8,000 and 10,000 BC...may be in serious trouble.

  We do know that at some point in the future, Damascus will cease to exist as a city, and become a ruinous heap..

I believe the scripture, but I don't believe for a second that Damascus is between 8,000 & 10,000 BC old. That doesn't line up with the book you got that scripture out of.

 What I read on AP was there was fighting going on between 2 factions in Syria. Not sure why Israel got involved. Sect. of State Rubio was concerned and looking into what's going on.

  First off, we should consider the Druze people.  The Druze religion, much like the Samaritans, are a minority religion of the near east, many living in Israel.

  Both are an admixture of Judaism and other religions.. In the case of the Druze, some Islam is mixed in.

  Israel, being the only relatively free nation in the area, works to preserve the freedom of such people, if only to maintain their status as a free country.

   The new Syrian power brokers, although promising freedom, apparently did nothing to prevent attacks upon the Druze, by Islamic radicals.
