A new tank, German/French development
« on: July 03, 2025, 03:27:38 AM »
In their effort to produce a new, more militant EU, France and Germany have produced a new, heavily armed tank. Weighing 61.5 tons, it carries a 144 mm main gun, which produces 20 megajoules of energy, while the current NATO standard is 120mm, producing15 megajoules..

Is this the proper way to go, considering the changing face of war?  Personally I think we should be looking more at lighter, less costly tanks using missiles for the main gun.

See photo of EU's new EMBT tank below.

Frankly, I see too many "breakable" things exposed outside the turret.  Would one or two fragmenting rounds or cluster bombs, blind and otherwise incapacitate the crew?

Further, first glance at the main gun and the auto serve turret, it looks like the length of chamber and breech block behind the pivot point, will IT allow the gun to depress very far, without hitting the turret roof ?  Even the height of the leading edge of the frontal armor may prohibit much muzzle depression.

So, would it be a "sitting duck" for an opposing gun much below it's own elevation?
