Are you the same Ken that I talked to about your Re-loading building? If so, hows it coming along?

Yep, it's me here. Still not done, I am sad to say. I have had several other considerations for which to use my discretionary time, but the project is still underway and I have high hopes of completing it soon. It is a long story, but I guess since I have been waiting this long, and since I have the rest of my life to get it done, it isn't a big deal!!! Good to hear from ya. I think about ya there in the middle of all that good hunting, and wish I was there just about once a month!!!

Are ya gonna spend the bucks to get one of those new Marlin .32 H&R Mags that we have talked about and waited for? I sure would like to have one, but MAN, I don't know if I am willing to spend that many bucks!!!!

I thought that was you!

You'll eventually get that little ammo factory fired up! LOL! I've loaded several thousand rounds in mine already for myself, as well as a few thousand more for friends, and family.

You just come on out here when you take a notion! You know you're welcome anytime! Heck, I'll even get Bridget to cook you up a nice catfish dinner, complete with all the fixings! LOL! We'll find all kinds of critters you can shoot at!

I'm sorta agravated at Marlin on their new 32 magnum. I can't believe they brought it out with the design they did. If they'd have brought out a model with a regular loading gate like the 1894C, and a barrel band, I'd have been tickled. I may still get one, but I sure ain't fired up too much on the over all design of this one. I absolutely hate having to load it like a 22 rifle through the magazine tube!

As bad as I've been wanting a lever action in a 32 magnum though, I'll likely wind up spending the money anyhow! LOL!

Do those Marlins you are talking about come in the 32-20 caliber or is that a pipe dream I've been having???  I know you fellas like the 32 H&R magnum but I wonder if the 32-20 might not be the better round.  Not to 'flame out' here, as they say, but just curious.

Jerry - your reloading sounds more than impressive and I be jealous of anyone being able to have that amount of time to enjoy this aspect of the shooting sports.

Ken - I have to tell you that I once ran a thought like a reloading shop past my late darlin' wife and she reminded me that I could only wire up one outbuilding for heat, like and music - and that was the doghouse (LOL).  So...............   :-D    Mikey.

Mikey,

Marlin did make a 32-20 but I don't think they're in prodution now. You can find one occasionally at a gun show, but they're hard to find from my experience.

The reason the 32 magnum has more appeal to me is mainly because you have more options with hand loads for it as far as velocity goes. You can also use carbide dies, which speeds up loading(a big plus for me). Also, I'm eventually gonna end up with a Ruger Single-Six in 32 magnum, so having a rifle in the same caliber is a factor too.

On the re-loading, well, I definately have all the time I want during the winter months. I'm a contractor, and I shut down my buisness in November. I don't fire back up again till March, so for the months of cold weather(my favorite time), I pretty much just hunt, shoot, and re-load ammo. I shoot a lot during my work season too, but my loading time gets cut back a good bit.

I had the same talk with my wife over a loading building, and she fussed about it too. I started leaving a lot of stuff like cases, boxes, and other stuff laying around the house, so she finally caved in. I think the case tumbler echoing through the house every day for a few weeks is what finally broke her down! LOL!

I lucked up, and bought a 12'x12' building for $50 that my uncle wanted out of his yard. It's one of those little barn looking buildings that Lowes sells. It was in perfect shape, so I snatched it up. I payed another $50 to get it hualed to my house, then put about $700 more into insulating it, and finishing the inside. I built a permanant loading bench in it, and Bridget even bought me a nice TV-DVD-VCR combo to put in it! It sure made a dandy little ammo factory. I'm thinking about buying a nice Dillon to set up in there this summer. As much ammo as I've loaded on single-stage presses, I'll be able to keep up with Winchester then! LOL!

Jerry:  I'm laughing pretty hard at the techniques you used to convince your wife that you needed a reloading shed.  The first time my darlin' bride stepped on a used primer was the last time, so to speak.  After that I was consigned to the unheated room over the garage.  Well, at least she never came out there to, ummmmmm, discuss something with me (LOL).

Mikey.

Mikey,

What I know of Mr. Lester tells me that you and I would have a hard time holdin' a candle for him to run by!!. That boy gits in more huntin' and shootin' in a week than I do in months!

I have been a little concerned about getting this place all fixed up for the very reason you mention. Shucks, it's far enough to the other end of the house, without having a place plumb outside to go!!

I have never had a place dedicated to loading or working on my firearms before. I am really looking forward to having a place where I can start something and go away and leave it to return at a later time and take up where I left off. Jerry has a nice place, and he has a wonderful lot of country to hunt in.

Where I live, the game is pretty scarce, and there is a lot more huntin' than shootin'!! But it is my considered opinion that when Mr. Lester speaks, he speaks from quite a bit of experience, and is worth listening too. Shucks, he's killed more deer last year than I have probably killed in mosta my life, and done much of it with a handgun. Around here, mostly you gotta have a long range glass just to see 'em, unless of course you are ridin' your motersickle at night and then they stand right next the the edge of the road and dart across in front of ya and scare the peewaddin' out of ya!

Jerry, I feel the same as you about the design of the Marlin .32 H&R. Kinda curious why they did it that way. I recently found a Model 1894M, which is the .22 Mag rifle that Marlin only made for a couple years. First one I ever saw except in a picture. I was lucky enough to have something that the feller who had it wanted more, so we both left happy. Looks to me like this new Marlin is very much like the 1894M, and I am guessing that the size of the .32 H&R round was conducive to working in this model more easily than it would have been to make up the regular 1894 style for it. I betcha it was cheaper and easier for Marlin to make it work this way and so they did!!.

Like you, I sure would like to have one, but man are they proud of 'em. Guess we will see. The older I get, the tighter I get, and Maw says I already would skin a flea for its hide and taller!! I have been known to spend a few bucks on firearms, loadin' supplies, and motersickle chrome!

You guys try to get along with your room mates, hear??!! Can't live with 'em, and we can't live without 'em, at least I sure would hate to try. My old girl still sets an awful tasty table, which is why they call me "Pudge"!!!!

Mikey,

I've been through the old "primer cussing" a few times myself! LOL! Bare feminine feet, hardwood floors, and primers make for a lot of hopping around! Brass shavings from the trimmer will really set a woman off! LOL!

Ken,

I've done a lot of pondering over the new 32 magnum. I've weighed out the high price against the features I don't like on it, and so far, I just can't justify it. I handled the 38 special Cowboy model a while back, and I'm about half tempted to get one of them instead. That is one sweet rifle with that case hardened reciever, octagon barrel, and super slick action. I hate the sights on it, but they can be replaced easy enough. The 38 special ain't much higher than the 32 magnum for as nice of a gun as it is, so it's very tempting indeed.

I'd say you'll like that 1894M pretty good. I've shot a couple of them, and they shoot pretty daggone good from what I've seen. It ought to make a nice jack rabbit rifle.
