APRIL 19, 1943 A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY
« on: April 19, 2022, 03:56:02 AM »
On that day bugeye was born, and last night my beautiful bride baked a birthday mince meat pie. :)

Let the booing and hissing begin.

My Grandmother used to make them along with many other types. They were always the last one to go...

My wife and her mother, being descended from Pennsylvania Dutch, made the best Minced meat pie.... by using the old, traditional recipe.
Of course, contrary to what many seem to think, minced meat pie should have as a primary ingredient, ...minced meat.

Continuing on...  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BUGEYE !

I put them in the same league as Lemon Merangue, liver and Lime any thing; if there is a Purgatory, people there will be fed the three amentioned items. ;D

Like my grandmother would say “ can’t have a good pie without a good pie crust... I’ve been reduced to eating mince meat pie (because all the other pie was gone) not bad, but not really good either to me.

Luckily, there's a grocery store here (food depot) that stocks quart jars of mince meat pie filling.
Granted, it's not the original recipe with meat in it, but it has mainly raisins and apples and good spices.  :)

Thanks for the well wishes.

My birthday cake will come along when I finish the pie.
It's made with white cake mix with vanilla puddin in it, along with mandarin oranges, coconut, pecans, and the icing is made with whipped cream with oranges and coconut in it too.  It's the greatest cake in the world.  Sinful.

Never cared for it myself
I always bought a jar for my mother to
make a pie for herself and my sister

If you buy Nonesuch brand mincemeat,
it does indeed have beef as an ingredient

I checked and mine doesn’t have meat.   It’s so good that it reminds me of my momma’s raisin pie.

Well happy birthday, but I'm not sure what a " mince meat pie" is, but it sounds nasty.  I'll stick with Linda's apple pie,  and peach cobbler.

Happy Birthday, Bugeye.  Keep circling the Sun.

Minced meat pie.  Meh, not so much.  It's right up there with fruitcake.  Dee's feeling better.  He can have my slice.  I'll pass.

Can't you get Claxton fruit cake there on the island??  it's really good.   I eat several every year.
It's made closer to you than me.   Start looking in the grocery stores around Thanksgiving.

 Happy Birthday BUGEYE!

I hope you know that another important event happened on 4/19, 168 years earlier.

The Battles of Lexington and Concord, 19 April, 1775. The start of the War of Independence and the beginning struggle for our Liberty!
Hold still while I overthink this.

Nancy has been watching a TV series about that very thing and she pointed out that date to me recently.
Timothy McVeigh blew up the federal building on my birthday. :o :)

Claxton, Ga....The Fruitcake Capital of the world. In 1963, me and about 30 or so other idiots from Ft. Benning, Ga. while on maneuvers at Ft Stewart descended on Claxton to have some fun.The Claxton Mayor had the US Army put Claxton off limits to us, and we decided to go anyway. It was fun while it lasted, but the punishment for doing it was not to say the least. Digging big holes in the ground all weekend, while others watched and laughed was a terrible way to spend a hangover in the Georgia sun. Hated Fruitcakes ever since. They say my Mama made the best Mincemeat pie in southern Arkansas. One of the few things she made, I didn't like. But her Strawberry pie was worth dying for. Triple layer with real whipped cream between each one.

LOL, you really should give Claxton a second chance.
Apparently the Mayor had good reason to keep a bunch of hell raisers out of his town, you could have destroyed their bakery.  ;D
