They evidently did it because of an ingrown sense of prejudice, or at least it appears that way.
From what I understand, Israel has laws against acting on such prejudice, so B&J likely have lost protection for their brand name, so far as Israel is concerned.
With B&J (actually Unilever) abandoning their brand name rights, and an enterprising Israeli firm is about to make use of it ! Some may buy th enew brand as an "in your face" gesture...
