It looks like the SBC convention is going to be rough..

Seeing this article, I was struck how some members have taken up the Criminal Racist Theory..CRT).  It is hard to believe that any would adopt this divisive, leftist & communist idea. Looks like a big breakup coming in the future.

It seems obvious that the writer of the article, has troubles with comprehension of scriptures. He seems to wonder why many cannot accept CRT, women preachers or any other contemporary slippages.

I was a SB years ago.  Went to the Assembly of God.  SB's are being watered down in their evangelical effort and too much outside influence.  Independent Baptist churches are better.

I agree with the independent Baptist churches, and like the "non-denominational" church where I attend and serve, many non-denominational churches are just independent Baptist, without the name.

One caution however..  Any independent church needs a congregation that is very well versed in the scriptures, or at least leadership (elders) who are very well versed and committed to 'sola scriptura', ....so no single person or preacher, can lead them astray..

So true.  Without being Bible based, the church is no good.  Two main issues today are plain in the Bible, both Old and New Testament.  One is being gay.  Old Testament gay people were stoned to death.  New Testament teaches repentance and acceptance of Jesus as your substitute blood payment for your sin or sins.  The other is abortion.  God told a prophet that He knew him while he was in his mother's womb.  Unborn babies are still human, like a fertilized bird egg.  You can't destroy an eagles eggs without severe penalty.  Humans just don't lay eggs.

Things have radically changed
(or maybe not) with Christian churches
in the last few decades.
The larger more popular ones I
see in my region are of the " send me
your money " " sow your seed " or
the ones that spout only feel good
happy trails/don't-dare-mention-
satan-or-hell and the "send your
love gift and we'll send you this
widget and a special prosperity
prayer booklet " type of church.
The ones in the immediate area
are all spanish language or the
whitey is the root of all evil churches

I am very skeptical of most of the mega churches..  The bigger share of them are just "tickling the ears", of those who are comfortable with "pop Christianity".  Those are the folks who want to appear excited and pious both. but you can count upon this...when the persecution of real Christians starts..the attendance at those  mega , will dwindle like an icicle in the Sahara.
There are 27 books in the New Testament.... 26 of them carry warning of false teachers!

It looks like the more liberals carried the day.

So, what do the conservatives do now!  Do they stay with the conference, or branch out on their own?  We see the United Methodists in much the same quandary.

The pope doesn't seem to be in sync with many of his bishops & priests, especially in reference to things like homosexuality, Islam, politics and various other subjects.
I find it interesting how the WAPO reporter keeps referring to half of the representatives "hard right", but doesn't mention any "hard left"...again, betraying his personal bias.

Is this the start of the winnowing process?  What do you think ?

I quit the SBC years ago. Organized religion is bad for Christianity IMO! So they chose a Moderate (Socialist) to lead them.....No surprise there!

Much depends upon what is meant by "organized" religion.  I am sure of course, that you didn't mean the polar opposite, being a "disorganized" religion. :D

There is an old joke among Baptists which goes....." I'm a Baptist, so I don't belong to any organized religion!" ;D

Actually, there is a proper place for some organization, even be it a very small, home study group.

The fellowship of believers is very important.  Without that fellowship, we tend to slide backward in our spiritual walk. Scripture tells us not to "the gathering of ourselves together".
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Heb 10:25)

Sola scriptura has been a hallmark of active, dynamic church.  Just as in the OT times, we are  encouraged to share and examine the scriptures on a regular basis.   The Bible itself tells us that the written word is there for doctrine, correction, and instruction on righteousness.
Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2 Tim 3:16)

Some sects don't want the people to read the Bible..that is flat wrong. Instead, we should each become as familiar with the Bible as we can .
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Tim 2:15)

We should engage in discussions, that is how we come to the best conclusions.

Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
 (Prov 11:14)
