I have a Savage 99 in 308. The lever is so loose that it rattles and will sometimes come open by itself. Is this repairable? Best of luck. POW

Is the catch still there? When you open the action on the right side of the lever is a catch.

Wizard by catch do you mean a triangular bump? If so its still there. The lever seems more prone to come open from the uncocked position. It feels like it is caming up good upon closing but will not stay closed well when uncocked. Just the rattle alone is irritating. Thanks POW

Just the triangular bump is all that is on the inner right side of the lever. The rest is flat and smooth. POW

Triangular is my closest description. Although it could nearly be described as heart shaped. I can see that it is in an area to produce a friction contact allowing the lever to remain in the closed position. It does not appear to be seriously worn because it barely clears going into the receiver. Perhaps its the lip you mentioned?
Also my stocks are a mismatch in good light. The butt stock is a very good piece of walnut but the forearm appears to be stained hardwood of some kind. It is noticably lighter in color and less dense. Know where used stocks can be found? Thanks for your help. POW

I`m still hoping to find out how to remedy the rattle of the lever on my Savage 99 or where used stocks can be found for it. Best of luck. POW

OK I`ll do that. Let you know tomorrow. I do not think anything fell out because its gradually become this way but a piece of the cocking indicator is missing so I`ll look to see if thats related. POW

I THINK I have found the problem. I have noticed from looking at photos of another 99 that I have a screw missing from the lever on the left side. Can I assume this is a tensioner? Where can I find this part? I think its a special screw not something i can find at the hardware store. Thanks .POW

Dakotashooter yep you`re right. Found it there on a schematic. Its called a lever bushing screw. Do you think that will tighten the loose lever? Thanks. POW
