ORLANDO, Fla. -  State prosecutors in the case against George Zimmerman are pushing to keep Zimmerman's attorneys from bringing testimony about Trayvon Martin's past during the trial.
The state said in motions filed on Friday they want to prevent Zimmerman's attorneys from bringing up Martin's personal life, including his school records, previous suspension from school, fights, text messages sent prior to his death unless related to case and his social media use.

The motion also says the state wants to prevent the defense from using Martin's toxicology report, which showed the level of marijuana in Martin's blood the night he was shot and killed.

The state's filings suggest they fear the defense may try to attack Martin's character, instead of focusing on whether Zimmerman murdered Martin. Assistant prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda argued that Martin's past is irrelevant and would clearly be designed only to prejudice the jury.

The state filing the motion doesn't mean the defense was trying to use it at the trial and often similar motions are filed as a precaution to give the judge an opportunity to tell both sides what they should not reference or introduce unless later ruled relevant and admissible.

Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara also filed motions discussing what they will discuss at the next hearing, which is set for May 28. Among the motions were a motion to allow additional witnesses and to allow expert testimony by video at the hearing.
Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder after shooting and killing Martin in Sanford in February 2012.

Jury selection is slated to begin on June 10.

I have a hard time figuring out why people think this is gonna be a fair trial. This is gonna be a racially motivated lynching.

To be sure, the past is not allowable as evidence in the guilt/innocent stage, only in the sentencing.
It is also true that there will never be known the true story.
I do differ from Dee on the eventual outcome but it is not race related.

BALONEY, you bet it's race related. If poor lil trayvon had been white there would have been no charges filed. This is no more than a kangaroo court. Poor lil trayvon was a punk who finally picked on the wrong guy. POWDERMAN.

The media has all ready convicted Zimmerman, the president has said Trayvon was his son, Jesse and Al have been preaching there is no justice for Trayvon. None of these would care unless Trayvon was black.
 
Don't really know what happened that night but if (and it's real doubtful) Zimmerman isn't convicted there will be race riots across the country. Just like the Rodney King trial.

Exactly Sir. If there are race riots, SO WHAT?? The libs and blacks would make Zimmerman into a sacrificial lamb to satisfy the unwashed masses. Darn right it's about race. POWDERMAN.

At the time, I said that Zimmerman should have hit the road while he had the chance.  If he by some chance survives the trial, he most likely will have to hit the road anyway, because the blacks will have him on their hit list.

This case is by any standard, a disgrace and abominable miscarriage of justice.  Zimmerman was attacked by the punk and at that point, the attackers life was forfeit.  Is there anyone here who would have allowed the punk to continue slamming your head into the concrete if you had the means to end it?
