near perfect job

As I was walking into a Subway for lunch today in a small central Kansas town I parked next to a BMW GS on my Norge. When I walked in I introduced myself to a guy that was at a table with a helmet, he in turn ID my Norge instantly and recognized it as an 8V. Turns out he works for Garmin and spends a lot of road time on the GS testing GPS units. He said he still had a couple of hundred miles to ride today (near perfect riding day). I told him that it sounded like a great job. Overall he claimed it was (he is also on the design team) but until a couple of weeks ago much of the riding had not been all that fun in the cold. Oh well, hard to find the perfect job.

oh, he gets no slack from me... I suspect he was wearing a company paid-for rain suit.

He was wearing a very well "broke in" either Roadcrafter or Areostich suit. Both the BMW GS and his riding gear look cared for but well used. The GS was a 2002 model that didn't shine no more. Talking with him it sounded like it is all his own stuff and and he gets paid mileage. He said he goes into Mexico and Canada some also.

Some people would do that job for free; why would any outfit pay someone to do it?

You would have to pay me a lot to go into Mexico---I sure wouldn't do that for free.
I applaud him for doing what he likes and getting paid for it. You gotta eat.

Couldn't pay me to step foot in Mexico these days either,  there is no resoect for life over there.

It seems that it depends a lot on where in Mexico you are at. I know of several people that have vacationed or motorcycled in Mexico during the last year and all had a great time and enjoyed the company.

Probably not. The last people I knew who went were one of my flying club instructors and his wife. They went on a week long cooking school vacation about 80 miles out of Mexico City a few months back. They had a great time.
