I always thought people would just rather work and make their own money to pay for things they needed or wanted for themselves

I know a lot of people who quit employing Americans because they are risky and lazy to employ, and about as many Americans who don't work because they have figured out how to make a very nice living on the dole. Interesting. A real thing.

It's why socialism doesn't work - eventually you run out of other people's money.
 
Gradually the "other people" (working people) realize they would be better off not working, so they go on welfare too.  Inevitably you reach a point where the few still working can't support the masses of non-workers and the whole system collapses.

The English have such a cool name for welfare leeches, but I can't remember what that word is. Do you know? It is used by people who run businesses and pay taxes.
