Drought
« on: May 01, 2013, 01:59:25 AM »
Raining all around, I can see the lightening flashing and hear the thunder roll but all we get is a few drops. South of us they got 7" yesterday but our stock tanks are drying up.  :o we need rain badly in  central  Florida.

Welcome to the club. Our stock ponds have been dry for two years.

Last night it started to rain then changed to snow.  Cheyenne Wyo forcast is to get over a foot of snow but to the east where I live only about two inch are on the ground.  The area I live is in the drought  area, less than three inches of water sofar this year.

They last couple rains have pretty well filled up most the water holes around here.
I think the still have a ways to go out in the wheat fields of western Okla, but looking pretty good here.
I'm hoping for a much more moderate summer this year, last two were rough.

Colorado has been in drought conditions for five years running now. The price of hay is out of sight. We have extreme fire danger warnings as the long term drought has a cumulative effect when trees and fuel materials become more and more dry, it's getting pretty scary here on the edge of what is called the "wet mountains".

My friends at Pine Bluffs say they are getting a lot of moisture with these latest storms.  Maybe I misunderstand them.

No you heard them right. Friend of mine north of Egbert says he's got about 5-6 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground.
Up here we've got about 2 inches of snow over the top of 2 inches of mud. The outlook on this ranching deal is a lot better than it was 30 days ago, but we're still along ways from being recovered. But at least the grass was starting to greenup and grow and that's further than we got last year.
In the 1920's "sheeple" was a term coined by the National Socialist Party in Germany to describe people that would not vote for Hitler. In the 1930's they held Hitler as the only one that would bring pride back to Germany and bring the budget and economy back.....

We haven't seen rain since Jan.  Our irrigation quota is about 40% of normal and won't be released until June instead of March. My inlaws North of Dallas have had enough to keep the pastures green and fill the tanks for the first time in years.
