Modern Bedding Methods Applied to Milsurps?
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:59:28 PM »
Hi All,
In my research to pick a modern bolt gun, I've done a lot of reading about Accustock and now Ruger's Power Bedding... seems like the current concensus is... mating metal to metal is the way to go.

So can anyone enlighten me on what the actual objectives to bedding are?  I read about "don't let this part of the stock and action touch.... just these other spots, etc.

Yet it seems what the newer methods all have in common is... trying to lock the action into the stock in all 3 dimensions... so is it wrong to believe the any way of creating tight metal to metal fit to the action would be the basic idea?

I'm thinking pillar bedding (though I don't know the real details of it... and putting metal stock under any spot that you torque the action into.

Anyway, trying to settle in my own mind... what actually you're supposed to be doing when electing a bedding method.

Just buy an after market stock with a bedding block.

That's an idea, know if anyone makes them in the standard military full stock?

Enlighten me.  Take an example of say a 98 mauser or M48 or Mosin even... where does the bedding block go?

I think you will only find one for the Mauser.......spans the mounting bolts.

That doesn't remedy all of the bedding concerns.

No, but for the time, patience and experience to do a complete bedding, it is the easiest and quickest and less messy way.  Good results can be achieved with an after market stock.
