Triangle barrel for contender
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:23:49 AM »
One of the local gun shops picked up an older Contender with  a triangle barrel in a 7 X 30 waters made by Fox Ridge I think he said.  If I am not wrong isn't that the speciality shop for TC that is now defunked or gone out of business.  Every time he gets a TC  in weather Contender or Encore he calls me as he knows that it does perk my interest.  Now I have never heard of a triangle barrel before, octagon yes, triangle no.  Anyone heard of this before and what is it's value?

Fox Ridge offered them which was T/C's custom shop and is closed.
The triangle shape you are talking about... Does it have the vent rib at the top too? These where called scalloped barrels.
They also did diamond barrels which are rounded on the bottom just till where the front end of the forend would stop. The four flats cut to give a 4 pointed diamond shape. Both cost about 75 more so if you can get the barrel for $275 or less it's a no brainer. What's his number?? ;)

I am going to take a look at it and go from there.  I know he doesn't want to sell just the barrel but the frame as well.  If I  pass I will be more then happy to give you his no.

Well I went to look at it and it was in great shape.  It was a Fox River barrel and was a triangle 12 inch  barrel in the 7 X 30 waters with a 2 X 7 Bushnell scope on it.  I ended up not being able to pass it up and bought the frame, barrel, and scope for $475.  So I just added my fourth Contender frame.

Here in Wisconsin I have to wait a few days before I can pick it up.  Soon as I get it next week sometime I will post a picture of it.  It is sure different, never seen one like it before.

Best I recall, that barrel was pretty high at FRO, so I'd say you did good. ;D 8)

Picked it up today.  Noticed a small hairline crack in the forearm just under the Fox River writing, but I have plenty of forearms for Contenders so no problem.  Going to include the pictures in this post.

Danny,
The Thompson Center Association (TCA) normally has special runs of barrels for its members every 3 months.  A couple of years ago the triangle barrel was the special, I had mine made into stainless 21" 357 Maximum.  Great barrel...
