HELLO GROUP, Need some help, can anyone tell me the twist rate on the Browning 1886 45/70 26" rifle. TIA-----Turk

I believe the twist rate of the Brownchester 45-70 is the Winchester 1886 standard of 1 in 22.

I have the Brownchester saddle ring carbine. The rear sight doesn't have a way to adjust for vertical sighting except for the flip up ladder. My loads print about 6-7 inches low at 100 yds. Is there any way to adjust the rear sight other than use the flip up ladder? Presently I have a piece of brass wedged unter the sight to give a proper zero with the rear sight at 100 yds for hunting purposes.. However, I can't use the ladder sight at all now.

I don't know what type of front sight is on your carbine, but if it is removable you could try using a lower one or if not maybe filing it down a little at a time to get the 100yd zero you want.

The sights on Winchester carbines leave a lot to be desired. I have no experience with the late model Browning guns, but, I replaced the rear sight on my original '86 SRC with a Marble's flip up. I did the same with the 1892s, also. It worked for me.

Well, I called Wilcox at Browning and he said the rifles and the carbines are 1 in 20 twist on the 86's. Thanks to all----Turk
