Author Topic: Tikka White Tail or Tikka T3? That is the question. (Read 666 times)

Hello and thanks. I was pondering the choice between a 7mm Rem Mag and the ol' 30-06 in a white tail hunter for an elk gun. I after some research and helpful hints from this board, I decided on the 30-06. Problem is I cant find one a 30-06 (new) in the White Tail Hunter, but have found a couple in 7mm Rem Mag.

No one in Oklahoma City carries Tikka at all. Not being able to handle a T3 is a minor problem for me. Any suggestions of the real differences between these two would greatly appreciated. I could just get the 7 Mag and call it a day, or close my eyes and order a T3.

I have kicked the tires on the usual suspects, and have not found anything at the Tikka price point that I like as much as the Tikka White tail . I have a White tail in 7mm-08, love the trigger and the action is fantastic. I am sold on the quality of these rifles (nothing against the others, just a personal preference).

In the 7mm mag I would definitely go with the whitetail as the T3 is really light and would kick like a mad mule.

I am a fan of the venerable 30-06, but the 7mm will do the job just as well. Using a good 165-175 gn bullet will put any elk down. I would go with the Whitetail hunter or whitetail delux either way just for the extra weight a/c recoil.

I don't know if they still have this rifle, and I don't know store policy on out-of-state transfers but I bought the whitetail hunter, blued, synthetic in 270 a few months back at the Galyans in Rochester. They also had a 30-06 for the same price - $380, I think it was, on sale. Give them a call.
