Last year was my first 700 purchase. I loved that 243 so much, I bought a 308. The 243 was just an ADL combo, but what a difference in balance and handling! The low price on the ADL was the only reason I tried the rifle out, and after that, I'd have no problem spending a grand on one. All my rifles before were standard length actions, even if it were a short action caliber. That factory blocked Savage magazine for a 223 just wasn't worth the money, when compared to the 700 short. The kicker is, the Savage wasn't that much cheaper. I learned my lesson after that. Buy what fits you, and then choose your cartridge. Michiman.
