bone headed cop threatens to shoot licensed carry holder
« on: February 21, 2013, 06:03:31 AM »
Florida is the poster child of the concealed carry movement, the first to have a "shall issue" law. Yet though concealed carry has been a fact of life there for years, some cops still have trouble accepting it. This guy got out of his vehicle at the cops instruction, turned his back to the cop as instructed and the cop went ballistic when he caught a glimps of the man's gun in his back pocket. The cop drew his own gun and threateded to shoot the man. I guess he was lucky he was not shot in the back by the idiot cop. He also was luck it was all caught on tape because the cop naturally tried to lie out of it.

Now, I want everyone to imagine how the officer - or most of them? - would respond to, if they were spoken to/threatened, in like manner as the officer acted.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

It doesnt matter that it was caught on video it doesnt matter that the cop tried to lie his way out of it. Not a damn thing will be done about the cop's unprofessional conduct and he will ride again to harass law abiding citizens.

I agree with Lakota. That kind of behavior says as much about that police department as it does about the cop.

I suspect you may be right, the article states that he was placed on administrative leave, does that mean "paid vacation"?

Unbelievable.  Yet another case of a cop thinking that he is a thug instead of a public servant.  I would love to follow this and see how it turns out.  The cop should be terminated from employment and charged with threatening, intimidation, and reckless endangerment with a firearm (his).  Then whatever police dept that he works for should pay and incredible amount of money to the old guy for what that cop put him through.

Cougar, what exactly are you saying in your post?

I now live in citrus county Florida where this happened. And according to our local news paper the officer a citrus county sheriffs deputy has been fired.  ;) public opinion here is too strong to let him ride again. The general feeling is he will never ride again anywhere.

You guys really should verify your facts before you post.  ;) and coyote and Lakota I believe you owe the good citizens of citrus county Florida  a apology. Our sheriff knows if he lets this slide he will never get re-elected.

Normally I tend to give the cop the benefit of doubt..but if this thug was fired, that wasn't even enough. He should be brought up on charges relating to citizen abuse.  The lady was on the phone as the video closed...I hope she was talking to her lawyer!
The man's weapon would not have been exposed, except he was following the officer's orders... And the verbal abuse he suffered is UNCALLED for.."the F**** door, your F***back etc..stupid and childish.  Not only that, but the door to the van was wide open and he subjected the lady to that same, low-mentality language.
Often I consider videos suspect because most have an "agenda"..but this one does not appear edited and in fact, must be the sheriff depts own video.
Makes one think..perhaps the dept wants to be fair...or they have been scared into it.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Hopefully, he'll get the same treatment that the Canton Ohio cop got: http://www.cantonrep.com/news/x638339306/Daniel-Harless-fired-from-Canton-police-force

Not all cops get away with bad behavior, and a bad cop doesn't always mean the entire department is bad...

More than stupid and childish... it's not that. it's abusive.

Imagine if I spoke to a cop in that tone, let alone content. You'd probably not be seeing my posts here. i don't talk to anyone that way... but then again, I'm not LEO with a sense of superiority and impunity

I just watched it again and it looked like the cop had his gun sideways gangstra style when he first pulled. Look at it. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

If you have information of which we are not aware I thank you for bringing it forth but I certainly do not see where I owe an appology for expressing my opinion based on the information available.  I have just done a Google search for "Citrus County Florida deputy fired" and find lots of refferences to the original article but no results confirming you story, NONE.

I fail to see why any appology is required at all regardless of whether or not the deputy was fired. So the sheriff (an elected politician) fires a rogue deputy under his supervision to cover his own butt with the voters. What is so novel about that?

Not much new there. But particularly relevant here... my understanding is, Officer Not-So-Friendly is still in LE employ in Citrus... I'd like to see otherwise.

The latest report I could find was from "Mother Jones" dated Jan 23, at which time the officer was on "paid administrative leave" while the sheriff's department conducted investigation but the incident actually occured in 2009 so that investigation seems long overdue.
